In this observation, the vending machines of Attests Learning Centre were chosen because the students who were studying in library would come and purchase here and I decided to finish this observation alone, so the places and machines should concentrate and the visitor flaw rate needs to be in an appropriate range.
This observation mainly researches the differences between male and female students choose to buy odds when they are having rest. Observation strategy: I sit at the nearby TABLE and count the numbers of students who bought something here by draw slashes. Student rest area in Attests Learning Centre Coffee machine Vending machines of snacks and soft drinks Result: Coffee Snacks Soft drinks Male 12 4 2 Female 14 6 Analysis: The result showed that coffee is the most welcomed drink when SHUSH student studying in library and there is slight difference between male and female.
Probably because of the high usage rate of coffee machine, during my observation, it broke down for several minutes, which might cause the inaccurate data. In terms of snacks, likely more female would like to buy snacks than male, however maybe because of this observation happened in dinner time, not many students bought snacks. It is interesting to mention that just few students bought soft drinks here, and the possible reason was the cold weather and high health concerns. Details need to improve: 1 . The period of time I observed was not very appropriate because there were not many students, and I could not find any female buy soft drinks.
The special time period might influence students’ choices of purchasing in rest area. 2. The duration of observation was short, so that the data would not accurate. 3. When some emergency happened, like the coffee machine broke down, no reaction took. Conclusion University students spend much time stay in college, and much equipment has been installed for students’ conveniences. In this study, some differences purchase behaviors between male and female students were found. University should know about this and make facilities more effective.
