Beowulf was a true hero. He was a brave and noble warrior who fought for the good of others, and he was also a man of great strength and integrity. He was a true hero in every sense of the word.
Beowulf began his life as the son of King Ecgtheow and Queen Wealhtheow.
In his youth, Beowulf encountered three terrible creatures called Grendel, Grendel’s mother and a dragon named Scatha (sometimes spelled Skatha). Each creature wreaked havoc on Beowulf’s kingdom until he managed to defeat each one in turn with his courage and strength. Beowulf also killed a giant called Grendel by ripping off one of its arms with his bare hands during battle.
Beowulf’s first act as a hero was his fight with Grendel’s mother. She had come to attack Hrothgar’s kingdom because she wanted revenge for her son’s death at the hands of Beowulf’s father, King Ecgtheow. Grendel’s mother killed many people each night, but no one could stop her because she was so strong. Finally, Beowulf came to help Hrothgar by killing Grendel’s mother with only his bare hands!
Beowulf also showed his bravery when fighting against Grendel himself. Grendel had been terrorizing Hrothgar’s kingdom for twelve years before Beowulf arrived to challenge him. This fight between Beowulf and Grendel took place in an underground cave after Beowulf descended into it through a hole in the floor of the great hall where he had been feasting with Hrothgar and his men celebrating their victory over Grendel’s mother.
