Helen is considered one of the most beautiful women in history. She was born in Sparta, Greece, and was married to Menelaus, the king of Sparta. Her story is one of the most famous in all of Greek mythology, and she’s often cited as an example of how beauty can lead to destruction.
Helen was married to Menelaus, king of Sparta, though it wasn’t a happy marriage at first because he didn’t want to marry her when he found out she was already married to King Tyndareus’ son Agamemnon; however, they eventually made up and had three children together: Hermione (the eldest), Klytaemnestra (the middle child) and Castor (the youngest).
Helen ran away with Paris after he kidnapped her during a festival by disguising himself as someone else. The Trojan War lasted ten years and ended when the Greeks tricked the Trojans by hiding inside a giant horse and attacking them once they were inside the city walls.
Helen returned to Sparta with Menelaus but she never forgave him for cheating on her with another woman while she was away in Troy. Helen later married Deiphobus, who became king of Troy after Paris’ death at Philoctetes’ hands. When Troy was sacked by the Greeks, Deiphobus was killed by Odysseus’ men as he tried to defend his wife from being taken prisoner by Agamemnon.
