Arizona State University is known for its research and innovation. The university is also known for its highly ranked business and engineering programs. It is the largest public university by enrollment in the U.S., with over 70,000 undergraduate and graduate students and over 4,400 faculty members.
The university was founded in 1885 as the Tempe Normal School, a teacher training school. In 1958, the school became Arizona State College at Tempe. In 1964, it was renamed Arizona State University by a state legislature act.
ASU has over 70,000 students enrolled in one of its four campuses: Tempe campus, Polytechnic campus (in Mesa), West campus (in Glendale) and Downtown Phoenix campus. All four campuses are within an hour’s drive from each other.
