Case Western Reserve University is a private research university in Cleveland, Ohio. The university is known for its programs in the health sciences and medicine, engineering, and business.
The university was founded in 1967 by the Federation of Case Institute of Technology and the Western Reserve University. The two schools merged to create one university known as Case Western Reserve University. It is now one of the top 20 institutions in the nation for research spending by the National Science Foundation (NSF). Case Western Reserve has more than 24,000 students (undergraduates and graduate students combined) and offers over 100 undergraduate majors as well as more than 120 majors at the graduate level through its various schools and colleges.
In addition, Case Western Reserve University was ranked 41st in the 2017 U.S. News & World Report list of “national universities,” up from 44th in 2016, and has been listed among the top 50 national universities by U.S. News since 1990.
Case Western Reserve is also ranked as one of the top 20 universities in the country for research productivity by the NSF. It has an annual research budget of more than $800 million and awards nearly $100 million each year through its own grants and contracts from federal agencies such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF), Department of Defense (DoD), and Department of Energy (DoE).
