George Washington University is a private research university in Washington, D.C. It was chartered in 1821 by an act of the United States Congress. The university is organized into 10 schools and colleges, including the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences, the Elliott School of International Affairs, and the National Security Program. GW’s undergraduate program has been ranked 19th by U.S. News & World Report (USNWR) for 2019 and 26th among national universities by USNWR for 2020. The graduate programs have been ranked 37th in social policy by USNWR for 2019 and 41st in international affairs by USNWR for 2020.
The university is organized into 10 undergraduate schools and colleges, and 14 graduate and professional schools. GWU’s main campus is located in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood of Washington, D.C., along with the National Mall and many other local attractions. GWU hosts additional campuses worldwide including London School of Economics & Political Science, Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA), George Washington University Medical Center (GWUH), etc.
GW has more than 100 student organizations, including social fraternities and sororities, honor societies, community service clubs and faith-based organizations. The school also offers residence halls that accommodate more than 7,000 students with a variety of room options as well as on-campus apartments and houses where upperclassmen can live with their families while attending the university.
