Detailed answer:

Georgia Institute of Technology, also known as Georgia Tech, is a top-ranked public college in Atlanta, Georgia. It is known for its programs in engineering, computing, and business.

In fact, Georgia Tech has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top 20 public universities in the nation since 1982. The university offers more than 200 degree programs across six colleges with a faculty of more than 6,200 people.

The university has an alumni network of over 170,000 graduates around the world. Fifty-three Nobel laureates or winners have been affiliated with Georgia Tech as students or faculty members at some point in their careers.

Georgia Tech was founded in 1885 as the Georgia School of Technology and opened its doors in 1888 as an all-male school with an initial enrollment of 32 students. It was originally intended to train students for industrial careers through practical experience rather than theoretical study. In 1914 women were admitted for the first time and by 1917 women made up about 15 percent of total enrollment (1,865 out of 10,664). Today approximately half of all undergraduate students are female.

Nowadays Georgia Tech has produced more black engineering graduates than any other university in the United States. The university ranks first among all public universities and third among all universities in the number of National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships awarded to minority students.
