The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, also known as UIUC, is a public research university located in Champaign, Illinois. It is one of the top public universities in the United States and is considered to be one of the best universities for business majors.
The university was founded in 1867 as a land-grant institution under the Morrill Act. The school was first named the Illinois Industrial University in 1885 before being renamed the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1920. The school has an enrollment of more than 44,000 students each year and offers over 300 undergraduate degree programs as well as over 100 graduate programs through its nine colleges and schools.
UIUC is most well known for its engineering, business, and law programs but also offers many other undergraduate majors including agriculture, fine arts, nursing, medicine, psychology and journalism. The university also boasts a highly ranked graduate program in engineering with many students going on to earn graduate degrees from top schools across the country including Harvard University and MIT.
Today, it’s home to more than 100 research centers across campus and offers more than 600 degrees across more than 100 academic programs. The university offers more than 50 bachelor’s degree programs and more than 100 master’s degree programs through its three colleges.
