North Carolina A&T State University is known for its agricultural and technical programs. The university is also known for its strong Greek life presence on campus.

The university was founded in 1891 as the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts after the merger of several smaller institutions. It became a land-grant university in 1894, when it was renamed to North Carolina Agricultural and Mechanical College (N.C. A&M). The institution has since been renamed five times over the years, most recently in 2015 to North Carolina A&M University at Greensboro (NC A&M).

In addition, North Carolina A&M offers more than 150 undergraduate majors, minors and specializations and more than 25 graduate programs at its main campus in Greensboro. The school also operates satellite campuses in Charlotte, High Point and Winston-Salem that offer a limited number of degree programs.

The main campus of NC A&T is located on a 570-acre campus in Greensboro, NC within the city limits of Greensboro. The university has several satellite campuses throughout North Carolina including the Rocky Mount Campus, Durham Center Campus and the Charlotte Center Campus which are all located within a short distance of each other on Highway 70 East near downtown Charlotte, NC; the Winston-Salem Center Campus which is located on Highway 66 West near downtown Winston-Salem; and a Research Park Campus which is located at 1601 Hanes Mill Road in Martinsville, VA.
