Columbia University is one of the most prestigious universities in the world and it would be an honor to attend. It has also an excellent academic reputation and offers a great education.

The university is a private Ivy League research university located in New York City, United States. It was founded in 1754 as King’s College by royal charter of George II of Great Britain; after the American Revolutionary War, it was renamed Columbia College in recognition of Washington’s leadership role in the establishment of American independence. The university has produced notable alumni including five Founding Fathers of the United States: among them an author and signatory of the Declaration of Independence (Richard Stockton), two presidents (John Adams and his son John Quincy Adams), a president pro tempore of the United States Senate (Samuel Latham Mitchell), and a Chief Justice of the United States (Oliver Ellsworth).

Moreover, the university has been very influential to many people including artists like Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, Patti Smith and Frank Ocean.

In addition to its academic programs, Columbia maintains over 7,000 acres (2,814 ha) of forest preserve on three campuses; it owns hundreds more acres at Rockland Lake State Park.

The university has five schools: Columbia Business School, School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), School of General Studies, School of Professional Studies (including Barnard College), and the School of Journalism. The main campus is located in Morningside Heights on Manhattan’s Upper West Side near Central Park.
