ABSTRACT
This study is entitled “Technical Problem About Computer Hard Disk Drive”. It enables to achieve in rendering information about what is hard disk drive and some technical problem encountered on it. It also allows the reader to understand the possible answer of the said problem. Hard Disk Drive hardware in computer sometimes encounter problem such as hard disk drive make a weird sound. The technical paper will answer the cause of the problem and at the same time will suggest some instruction to handle the problem.
INTRODUCTION
In the new era most of the people use computer because the computer is one of the wonders of modern technology and the use of computer is universal. By using computer user can input data, store data and process output data. Computers build up a creative work and even make tougher jobs easier. One can communicate with anyone in the world without spending much money and even much faster. However a computer basically must have a CPU (stands for Central Processing Unit) are the brains behind your computer.
The CPU is made up of different hardware and one of the examples is the hard disk drive (HDD). The hard disk drive of the computer is where permanent information is stored. Documents, databases, spreadsheets, and programs are all stored on the hard disk. The larger the hard disk, the more you can fit on the drive.
The size of the HDD does not affect the speed at which a program can run, but the HDD speed can affect how fast you can access your files. On the other hand, the hard disk drive sometimes encounter problem like making a weird sound. However with this technical paper, it will provide information about why it happens and its solution.
PROBLEM
Hard Disk Drive is making a weird sound. You do something simple like double-click on the icon for a spreadsheet file. This simple act, on many computers, can take 20 or 30 seconds to complete, and all during that time the hard disk is churning away. The hard-disk access light flickers and the drive might make a whirring, whizzing or high-pitched whining noise. The hard drive is making a weird sound. It started recently and seems to be getting more frequent.
Sometimes we hear a repeated click-whir sound and then the computer locks up. Methods and Procedure Hard drive disk is making weird noise. Richard Rosell from USA encountered the same problem. The hard disk drive is making weird sound- keep hearing a sort of “ding” from his computer. It seems to only happen when the machine is in use but not when the machine is sitting idle. So what he did was he checked the settings in the power profile. He thinks that his hard drive set to shut down after a certain amount of time.
The sounds to him was hard drive has turned off to conserve power and reduce heat and the noise he hear is the drive spinning back up to speed to perform a function. Hard drives are no exception and because of this potential for failure, backing up crucial data to an external source other than his hard drive is essential. Thus Any hard drive can fail at any moment without warning, so making backups is always a good idea for him as soon as possible. Generalization Generally Inside your hard drive is a rapidly spinning platter coated with a thin layer of magnetic material.
There are also magnetic read / write heads that skim along only a few thousandths of an inch above the surface of the platter whose job is to read the data off, and write the data onto, that layer of magnetic material. If one of those heads hits the surface hard for some reason, it can gouge the magnetic material rendering the data stored there inaccessible. This is what referred to as a hard drive crash and one of the following symptoms may have a problem with your hard drive is the hard drive making sound.
Findings
The clicking sound coming from a hard drive is a bad sign. It could be an indication of terrible hardware happenings. So the immediate advice is “BACK UP YOUR HARD DRIVE” as soon as possible. If the drive fails, you’re out of luck. In fact, even if you don’t suspect a problem with your hard drive, it’s wise to make regular backups so you can survive a hard drive failure with only minimal inconvenience. Some hard drives do a self-test or a reset routine occasionally when they are idle and it is perfectly normal.
Some people describe this as a “meow” sound. Also, it could just be Windows doing some housekeeping. But any hard drive can fail at any moment without warning, so making backups is always a good idea.
