GlobalizationLebanonLebanon’s revenue resources are trade and financial services and most of its income is derived from these two areas. The civil war in Lebanon had destroyed these sectors of income along with tourism. The other sector that suffered a setback due to the civil war was the manufacturing industry, because several major factories were either shut down or badly damaged.
The manufacturing industry of this country produces chemicals, electrical goods, processed food and textiles. Its agricultural produce includes fruits, potatoes, vegetables and sugar (LEBANON. In Philip’s World Geo-Factbook).Even before globalization, Lebanon had developed its own heritage of literary and educational enhancements, cultural exchanges and acquisition of skills pertaining to language, intellectual and organizational reconcilement, and coexistence and emulation practices.
These are the fundamental attributes of globalization. However, Lebanon was unable to maintain a prospective balance of exchange with other nations and isolated itself from the rest of the world. This insularity prevented the deflation of the internal civil crisis. As the civil crisis ends, Lebanon has to engender reforms, which are the main pillars of globalization (GLOBALIZATION: TOWARDS A LEBANESE AGENDA).
There has to be a decentralization of power and the participation of citizens in the local developmental programs has to be ensured. The decade long civil crisis is almost over and the public sector is expanding. However, changes in administrative policies in the context of decentralization, sophistication of administration in tune with the enlarging public sector and the civil service sector were neither scrutinized nor improved upon. Moreover, Lebanon did not maintain the required balance, while regularizing regional and territorial differences that had emerged during the pre civil war period.
Its main developmental activities in the field of public welfare were restricted to areas around the capital and a few coastal areas. Lebanon has to change its policies and foster human development in all its aspects, in order to meet the challenges posed by globalization. To this end, Lebanon has to modify its ideology, the role it plays in the world, its functionality to achieve the fruits of globalization and overhaul its social philosophy. The need of the hour is to draft and implement suitable state policies to permit globalization in Lebanon (GLOBALIZATION: TOWARDS A LEBANESE AGENDA).
New ZealandGlobalization, while posing a wide range of challenges also provides an array of opportunities for the uplift of public welfare. These opportunities are beneficial to remote and geographically isolated countries like New Zealand. Taking advantage of globalization is essential for the improvement of the living standards of people. Every nation has to utilize globalization in a manner that is best suited to it by appropriately modifying the globalization process.
Ignoring such issues and adopting the globalization process blindly should be strictly avoided (The economic and social impacts of globalisation: New Zealand’s place in a multilateral rules-based trading system).Whilst modifying the process of globalization to suit one’s specific requirements, it is important to ensure that the rule of law is properly applied, in order to extract positive results from it. The economy after being globalized, should abide by the globally agreed codes of behavior. The Uruguay Round of trade bargains had benefitted New Zealand’s economy to the tune of nine billion New Zealand dollars, during the period from 1995 to 2004 in the agricultural sector.
The Uruguay Round generated a large number of employment opportunities in New Zealand. These results are not common to all the countries as has been evidenced by the fact that in some small and poor countries, the less privileged sectors of economy have been affected adversely. The effect of globalization in New Zealand has been very beneficial (The economic and social impacts of globalisation: New Zealand’s place in a multilateral rules-based trading system).Despite its size, New Zealand attained economic importance and started liberalizing and reforming its economy in the 1980s.
It entered into economic agreements with Australia in the year 1983 and the Closer Economic Relations or CER is one such agreement, which is not only important but also exhaustive. This agreement permits free trade in almost all goods, harmonization of the market and the creation of an open market for labor. Globalization provided a comprehensive market and a number of international economic opportunities for New Zealand. At present, New Zealand has trade agreements with more than one hundred countries.
It is a major participant in the international open market economies and according to a 2005 World Bank survey, New Zealand’s economy occupies the top position amongst 155 other economies (Patman).;;LiberiaLiberia an independent African nation was established in 1822 by the liberated Afro – American slaves. There has been unprecedented development in technology since World War II. The new paradigm supports miniaturization and some instances are the development of nano technology, which permits the transfer of huge amounts of data at very high data transfer speeds. Bio technology has improved the quality of farm products and increased profits to their producers. In the field of information technology microelectronics have brought in far reaching changes (Mifflin).
Liberia is a turbulent state and its citizens are subjected to never ending civil wars. There is no accountability and no enforcement mechanism in Liberia. Neighboring countries and international humanitarian organizations have expressed their willingness to contribute towards the development of humanitarian conditions and social welfare in Liberia. It is essential for the Liberians to desist from civil and military conflicts and other disabling factors that affect the economy of the country.
If efforts are made along these lines then there is a possibility that a new Liberia may emerge (Zaza).The Liberian economy has to countenance potent threats from the international global economic forces, whilst recovering from the shenanigans of political adventurers.
