“Humans are inflicting more and more damage on the environment.” Thesis Statement
The human activities that inflicting and damage on the environment are deforestation, improper waste disposal and over-exploitation of marine life.
Many disasters and diseases happen recently to cause great suffer to human race and all living things on our environment. In fact, the human activities are the main factor that cause the happen of the disaster and diseases. The human activities that inflicting and damage on the environment are deforestation, improper waste disposal and over-exploitation of marine life.
Deforestation is one of the human activities which cause bad effects on the environment. a) Supporting details: This will then lead to serious greenhouse effect which contribute to the increase of world temperature. (Marc Lallanilla, May 31, 2013)
b) Supporting details: The most noticeable outcome of the increase in temperature is the rising of sea level due to the melting of polar ice at the Arctic and Antarctic region.
If it’s left unattended, many coastal areas where roughly half of the human population lives, will be inundated, claimed by Marc Lallanilla, a LiveScience Staff Writer.
c) Supporting details: Coincidence, a recent study announced on National Geographic also revealing that the rising of sea level between 2.5 and 6.5 feet by 2100, is enough to swamp many of the cities along the U.S East Coast.
Improper waste disposal
Improper waste disposal is one of the human activities also which cause bad effects on the environment. a) Supporting details: Recyclables garbage such as plastic bottle and newspaper could eventually break down and release
harmful toxics into the soil if had not been taken care properly (Julie Boehlke, 2010)
b) Supporting details: In August 2006, a ship registered in Panama known as the Probo Koala, offloaded toxic waste at 12 different sites around the city of Abidjan. The gas released from the toxic had caused 17 people to die and over 30,000 people succumb to injury (Wikipedia, 2006).
c) Supporting details: Medical wastes such as needles, gloves and plasters can lead serious infectious issue if not being dispose properly. Dr. Abimbola Sowande explained that if these healthcare wastes are not properly disposed and exposed to scavengers, they could be infected with HIV/AIDS and hepatitis (African Search Light, 2013). Over-exploited of marine life
Over-exploited of marine life for source of protein can cause bad effects on the environment. a) Supporting details: Overfishing is what human are doing now and its effect is nothing favorable than causing a massive reduction of valuable fish stock (See The Sea.org, 2013)
b) Supporting details: The improper techniques humans use in harvesting marine products like bottom trawling and cyanide fishing, although promise with more catches than traditional methods, are destroying more coral reefs at the same time. (World Wildlife Fund Global, n.d.)
c) Supporting details: If humans insist to continue to exploit our marine products without heeding to scientific methods, the total catches by 2050 will drop by 40% or even more shall the changes of climate impact the agricultural industry, because people will then rely on marine products more than ever for their nutritional needs (BBC, 2012).
