Marijuana can affect so many people in different ways, positively and negatively. Although everyone knows the drug is fairly unhealthy and could even cause death ( If abused ), there are several medical aspects with it as well. Because of these pros and cons, the United States has a hard time deciding to legalize marijuana or keep it illegal. The main question is, will marijuana help the economy or make it worse? Personally it will help make the USA a better place in certain conditions. The issues of the drug are how people use it, how the government chooses its price, increase of the drug itself (which causes severe health issues and bad situations), etc. Fortunately marijuana is also used as medicine for certain illnesses like anxiety, stress, pain, and can make your life overall a happy place if the drug is not overused or abused, and can also help with jobs and taxes: helping the economy financially.
First off, the drugs main use is to distract the patient/user. Over the world anxiety disorders vary from 2.5 to 7 percent by country, globally estimated that 284 million people experienced an anxiety disorder. If Marijuana was legalized it could help at least 80% of customers with these disorders which also helps professional sellers of the drug pay good. Anxiety disorders aren’t even the only thing marijuana can benefit, it’s also a drug used by doctors to help the patient stay calm, or relax during a stressful time period. Being on the drug can loosen up, make people upbeat, and even make the customer confident. According to the article, Pros and Cons of Legalizing Marijuana in the U.S. , Deborah White, the author states, “Marijuana has proven medical benefits for patients suffering from a host of ailments and diseases, including cancer, AIDS, and glaucoma.” Not only does the drug ease people off, it can cure even diseases of the worse.
However, there are some people who would differ from this, even though the drug is scientifically proven it benefits users positively, it can also become addicting and cause these customers to not think correctly. Abusing this drug will definitely get you into trouble. The whole reason behind marajuana is to get your mind off of things, but when you have no medical needs and take it for the fun of it, that’s when the area gets a bit too iffy. Unfortunately Children and students have gotten into the drug without research. According to the article Why We Should Not Legalize Marijuana ,The author states, “Marijuana is the most commonly abused illegal drug in the U.S. and around the world. Those who support its legalization, for medical or for general use, fail to recognize that the greatest costs of marijuana are not related to its prohibition; they are the costs resulting from marijuana use itself….In 2008, marijuana use accounted for 4.2 million of the
million people aged 12 or older classified with dependence on or abuse of an illicit drug.” This means, even though its illegal people will still use it. By selling drugs illegally it then causes the whole field to look ghetto. Things may get mixed into the drug, and harm a person severely, and yet still make money off of selling this drug which is no longer used as medicine. Sadly, because of these effects it can slow people under the age of 21s brain, impair judgment and motor skills, so smoking cannabisPros and Cons of Legalizing Marijuana in
the U.S. before driving or doing other dangerous activities may increase the risk of an accident, which is also a huge issue. Students believe that if marajuana was legalized it could be professionally taken care of and nothing will be mixed in with this drug and be used correctly.
Another reason why marajuana should be legalized is the financial side of it. What do you get from selling something? Money. If people could sell this drug as a job, a bunch of more people will have a job without it being illegal at all. Sure, people still might find a way to stuff things into the marajuana but that could be easily avoided by going to the right professional seller. Because of the age issue, buying marajuana should only be legalized for 21 and older, just like alcohol. For example Pros and Cons of Legalizing Marijuana in the U.S. states, “Marijuana is no more harmful to a person’s health than alcohol or tobacco, which are both legal and widely used as well as regulated by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.” Saying this compares that alcohol itself is more harmful then marajuana. The only issue is who uses it and how they use it. Only people with a doctor’s degree should be able to sell this drug, however students believe that those people who still sell the drug even after legalizing it and don’t have any medical degree or job should then be questioned and punished.
In conclusion this drug benefits a lot of different things. The only issue is controlling it easier. Of course people will still use it for fun but that does not mean the US has to make marajuana illegal just because they cannot keep the drug in certain boundaries. Understanding marajuana is important, just like understanding how much alcohol you can drink it is all the same. Marajuana will help so many people and fairly different ways if used correctly and sold professionally.
