My passion for Cyber Security began during my time at Botho University, where I pursued a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Computing, specializing in Network and Infrastructure Management. Throughout my studies, particularly in the modules of Protocols and Internetworking Standard and Managing Network and Hardware, I discovered a keen interest in Cyber Security. I now aspire to further enhance my technical knowledge and expand my understanding of the extensive potential applications of Cyber Security by undertaking a dedicated course in this field.
My objective is to acquire knowledge and expertise in the design and maintenance of secure information systems and networks. Moreover, I aim to understand and handle security threats to these systems. This is because, in today’s digital age, cybersecurity is crucial in ensuring reliable and equitable access to connectivity. Therefore, I intend to enhance the security level of the Ministry of Health and Wellness by identifying and strengthening vulnerabilities in the patient administration framework used for recording patients’ information.
My course is the drive to the Cyber Security course I want to study. This course will introduce me to new areas such as designing secure frameworks and secure system management, which will enhance my knowledge and understanding of the subject. I decided to enroll in an online Cyber Security course to become familiar with the course material.
As a System Analyst Intern, my responsibilities include providing decision support solutions to the medical clinic and facilities’ staff. I am in charge of receiving and recording all Information and Communication Technology calls, sensitizing clients on ICT policies and procedures, creating government and email accounts, performing safeguard upkeep, providing network support, and building the integrated patient management system dictionaries. This internship has allowed me to apply my theoretical knowledge in a practical setting, which has helped me develop diagnostic and fundamental reasoning skills. Additionally, I have trained four of my colleagues, which has further developed my initiative and knowledge abilities. With these skills, I am determined to gain the specialized experience I need. Throughout my internship, I have identified network interruptions and weak security, indicating a need for improved security measures to ensure better performance.
While working at Scottish Livingstone Memorial Hospital, I had the chance to collaborate with colleagues from various countries. This experience ignited my interest in cultural exchanges and global information sharing, motivating me to learn French. Currently, I am at a beginner level in the language.
In addition to my hospital work, I fulfill the role of Junior Group Coordinator in the Chiro Youth Movement. Through this position, I have developed skills in planning and reporting. My main responsibility is mentoring children and empowering them to enhance their leadership abilities, build self-confidence, and assume responsibilities. To achieve these objectives, we organize activities like mind games, sports, and music.
Moreover, I actively participate in ecumenical and community outreach programs.
The motivation to study in the United Kingdom stems from the availability of professional programs in Botswana, which has a pressing need for skilled individuals due to network intrusions and weak security. By obtaining this degree, I will be prepared to address this demand and become a pioneer in designing, managing, and safeguarding information systems in the future. In addition, the United Kingdom’s strategic geographic location and robust financial sector draw industry experts globally, making it an ideal environment for fostering idea exchange and advancing my professional career.
After documenting the majority of my experience, I am excited to advance my career. The subjects provided in this program are a perfect match for my objectives. Through receiving comprehensive training, I will acquire specialized skills that will improve security in Botswana. Additionally, I will be able to propose creative solutions for overcoming obstacles that impede progress across various industries. Furthermore, I eagerly anticipate engaging with diverse cultures and exchanging knowledge. Utilizing the knowledge and skills gained from my professional background, university education, and extracurricular involvement, I believe that I would be a valuable asset to Birmingham University’s Masters of Cyber Security course.
