Non Commissioned Officers play a crucial role in the Army, performing numerous jobs that often go unnoticed. They assist soldiers in various ways, often without seeking recognition, simply wanting to see their soldiers achieve success. However, it is important for everyone to understand the impact and consequences of disrespecting a non commissioned officer. Non Commissioned Officers are essential for boosting morale, motivating soldiers, and encouraging them to strive for excellence. Disrespecting a non commissioned officer not only lowers morale, but also undermines their ability to effectively lead and support soldiers.
The Army relies on Non-Commissioned officers as the backbone, leading soldiers and accomplishing tasks, while Commissioned Officers create necessary conditions. Personally, I view non-commissioned officers as more like leaders than officers. Disrespect is defined as lack of respect, typically shown through disrespectful and contemptuous behavior. In my opinion, disrespect can be verbal, physical, or emotional mistreatment. Examples of what may or may not be considered disrespect include calling out someone’s rank and name to get their attention and being asked to go to “at ease” before formal conversation – which is not disrespectful. However, if someone fails to go to parade rest before speaking in front of them, it is considered disrespect. Joking in a group setting can potentially be disrespectful or simply a way of getting to know one’s subordinates and peers. Notably, American Non-Commissioned officers have displayed commendable performance during their global duty execution. Every soldier deserves an NCO who ensures all requirements are met.
