Harvard University is the oldest university in the United States and the largest in terms of total student enrollment. It was established in 1636 and has more than 28,000 students. Harvard University is also known as Harvard College, Harvard University Cambridge and Harvard University Cambridge Massachusetts.
In fact, Harvard University was established by clergymen who had been expelled from England for their Puritan beliefs. The school’s first home was in Newtowne (now Cambridge), Massachusetts, where it remained until 1639 when it moved to a larger location in New Towne (now Boston). The school’s current campus is located at Harvard Yard, which was named after John Harvard who donated
400 to help found the school.
Moreover, Harvard University was named after John Harvard, who was an English minister and one of its founders. He died in 1638 and left half his estate to the school. The school’s first building was built on land donated by the town of Charlestown.
