Gatsby is a fictional character from the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Gatsby’s real history is that he is originally from North Dakota, but he changed his name from James Gatz to Jay Gatsby in order to seem more sophisticated.
Gatsby is extremely wealthy and most of his money comes from illegal activities, such as bootlegging. He is in love with Daisy Buchanan, but she is married to Tom Buchanan, who is having an affair with Myrtle Wilson, who is married to George Wilson. When George Wilson finds out about Tom’s affair, he kills Gatsby in what he believes is self-defense.
Nick Carraway is Gatsby’s neighbor and the narrator of the story; Jordan Baker is Daisy’s friend and Nick’s love interest; and Tom Buchanan is having an affair with Myrtle Wilson, who was killed by George Wilson when he mistook her for Daisy at Gatsby’s funeral after mistaking Gatsby for Tom.
