The University of California, Davis is known for its top-ranked veterinary medicine and agriculture programs, as well as its outstanding research in many fields.
The university is located on a 1,200-acre campus in the Sacramento suburb of Davis that overlooks the city’s central park. The campus includes more than 300 buildings, many of them built in a Mediterranean architectural style with red tile roofs and arched windows — earning it the nickname “the most beautiful campus ever.”
In fact, the university has been named one of the top 10 public universities in the nation by U.S. News & World Report based on academic excellence and affordability. UC Davis has also been recognized by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance as one of the best values among public colleges in the western United States, due to its strong academic programs and low tuition costs.
UC Davis boasts an enrollment of nearly 40,000 students from all 50 states and more than 100 countries. About one-third are graduate students pursuing doctoral degrees in one of eight schools: Agricultural and Environmental Sciences; Biological Sciences; Engineering; Letters and Science; Social Welfare; Public Health; Veterinary Medicine; and Graduate Studies. The university also offers several professional masters programs in law, medicine, veterinary medicine and business administration.
Moreover, UC Davis is home to five national research centers: the National Institute for Food & Agriculture (NIFA); the Center for Healthier Children, Families & Communities; the Robert Mondavi Institute for Wine & Food Science; the Institute on Aging at UC Davis School of Medicine; and UC Davis MIND Institute (Medical Investigation of Neurodevelopmental Disorders).
