Mercutio is the most intimate friend of Romeo’s and one of the main characters in Romeo and Juliet. He is known for his quick wit and sharp tongue, as well as being a bit of a troublemaker who often gets into fights. Mercutio is very loyal to his friends, though he sometimes finds himself in over his head when he tries to help them. He will do anything for them, including risking his own life. The character is a bit of a womanizer and is always flirting with women—he even has great success with them! He’s hot-headed and impulsive, but also brave and courageous—he’s not afraid to put himself out there when it comes to protecting those he cares about or pursuing love interests. His death at the hands of Tybalt in a duel is one of the main catalysts for the tragic events that unfold in Romeo and Juliet.
