Joe Burrow made a surprise announcement on Tuesday afternoon that he was transferring from Ohio State University to Louisiana State University (LSU). The former Buckeye quarterback cited a desire to play for a team closer to his home state as the primary reason for his decision.
In addition, Burrow said that he was excited about being able to play for LSU head coach Ed Orgeron and offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger. The two coaches have been instrumental in developing quarterbacks at every level of football, from high school through the NFL.
“I’m excited about joining the LSU football program,” Burrow said in a statement released by LSU on Tuesday afternoon. “Coach O has built an incredible program there, and I’m looking forward to competing with Joe Burrow and my other teammates.”
Burrow’s transfer comes just days after former LSU starting quarterback Danny Etling announced his intention to transfer from the Tigers program as well. It is unknown whether Etling will seek another FBS program or remain at LSU as a walk-on player.
He had a great freshman year at LSU, but was injured in week two of the 2019 season against Georgia Southern and will be out for the rest of this season due to injury.
