The most meaningful experience that I consider in my life was when I danced at our community acquaintance night prior to my high school graduation. It was so wonderful evening and the affair was so fabulous and everyone was in great attire. The place was well decorated that one can feel the thrill of the evening and it made everyone proud being member of the community. The affair was intended for families to be acquainted with each other particularly those that they had not been acquainted with, and the place was filled with great faces elegantly dressed which added to the excitement of the night. The party was actually a family affair although parents were encouraged not to bring their very young children in order for them to freely enjoy the night. The affair was held in an open space and the program was really exciting.
Part of the program was an on-the-spot dance competition for teenagers which I had eagerly joined. I was not really aiming to win the contest; I just wanted to have my share of the excitement that filled the evening. It was a feeling that boasted my morale and confidence. A feeling that had helped realized that I could be able to do something that can make people happy; that I could contribute on my own way, to the efforts of building a better community. It was indeed a great experience that was not only meaningful to me, it was unforgettable.
That experience that I got from that acquaintance night made me confident that when I go to college, I could do well not only with my extra curricular activities but also with my academics. The feeling that I got from that on-the-spot dance contest gave me a positive outlook that there was really nothing wrong if I tried my best, and there was nothing wrong as well if would loss the contest. What was important was that I had tried. At least I would not blame my self later on for not trying. It gave me a sense that in the future, I would not lose anything if I will give it a try except only the prize if I lost the game.
This positive outlook will certainly affect my college experience positively. First, I will enter college with a positive attitude. I believe this is very important because college experience is not probably easy. It is an academic struggle that I really have to overcome, and if possible, overcome it with flying colors. Second, I will enter college with a strong foundation to overcome influences that may ruin my studies. I knew that aside from Academic struggle, college experience is full of extra curricular activities such as civic, social, and religious activities. In all this, interpersonal relationship is a very important issue. In this particular area, healthy morale and self confidence is essential to be able to participate well in such activities, and to overcome negative influences, and to establish friendship with peers in the group and out side the group. The positive out look that I got from the experience during that memorable night will help shape a college experience to be more exciting and challenging rather than struggling and boring. It will serve as an inspiration for me to try every possible opportunity without hesitation that I might not make it, or fear, that I might lose it.
Perhaps, everyone have their own contribution in the UF campus community through their participation in the campus various programs and activities. My experience during that acquaintance night will affect my contribution to the UF campus community not only through my participation in various programs and activities, but through exemplifying positive outlook and positive attitudes. Through these, I will try to provide positive influence among other students through demonstrating the benefits of positive attitudes and the power of positive outlook. This will be reflected by the way I relate my self with others, by the way I will take care of my studies and extra curricular activities, and by the way I will handle other responsibilities.
