The premise of the story of the Scarlet Letter Is focused on Hester Prying?a beautiful woman, who, when we enter the story, is being convicted of adultery and unwished accordingly. The said punishment of her misconduct is an embroidered red letter, the letter “A”, that Hester is required to wear on her chest from that point on. The Letter serves as a reminder to the community of the immorality of adultery and Its consequences, and an even more unforgiving and stark reminder to Hester about her sin.

The scarlet letter, embroidered by Hester herself, essentially stands for Adultery. Throughout the story the letter changes meanings according to the individual’s perception. First, the rose bush can be read as a symbol of hope and freedom to those being convicted and sent to prison.

It was the last thing the prisoners would see of the outside world before they entered the dark, cold, jail. Also, it could be seen as an encouragement to the prisoners and something good that would be there for them when they were released from prison. Symbolism is easy to overlook in stories, but once it is caught it makes the reading much more emotional and personal.
