In the book No Equal Justice by David Cole, he puts pen to paper what most were afraid to even think about, but one chapter that sticks out the most would be The Color of Punishment which is similar to a book called Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson the chapter focuses on the Death Penalty.
Let’s shine a light on the Death Penalty, more than half of its inmates are African American, some are innocent, pre-teens, teenagers, yet white people are the leading race when it comes to the death penalty, jail itself all while serving as the leading prosecutors for the death penalties. Look at it this way 13% are Hispanic, 41% are African American, and 42% are White, over the time distinguished analysts have conducted a study to show that the death penalty has a splash of discrimination it’s founded on the race of the victim, race of the accused, and all of the states that use the death penalty as a form of a just and equal punishment.
Most of the jury is made up of whites who are judges, defense attorneys, and even civic duties with this being said becoming racially unfair is a strong and common outcome for instance, in Alabama’s Houston County eight out of ten African Americans are able let alone become qualified for civic duty to help with a fair death penalty case but because they are swept beneath their feets by Whites. 23 and counting important cases in Alabama have been aloof after it was shown that the prosecutor unlawfully prohibited African Americans from their civic duties. Notwithstanding centuries of evidence retaining to the management over the death penalty is covered with racial unfairness, law/courts, and body of the state and their denial to touch on race in understanding or having any knowledge in ways to disclose an underlying blemish in the American system and its justice system. The lack of success to dispense an acceptable board to support important cases to all accused and death row inmates which expound features of the death penalty in America, the decision to put an inmate on death row are controlled by the amount of the representatives on said inmates team.
Although representatives have given an magnificent presentation to important cases very few inmates are looking at charges that they can afford to employ a proper representation so instead, they are given the representation that is underpaid, unpracticed who are to support them in facing the death row cases. What’s sad is that some courts have even caught lawyers sleeping through these detrimental cases, they’ve shown up to cases drunk, and also lawyers who were unsuccessful in preparing to represent their defendants. Think about all the lives that were innocently taken by the death penalty because of the simple fact that they didn’t have a passionate representative, think about all the lives that were let off the death row because they had wonderful representation to support them as you look you can see that there are pros and cons to this system yet Americans aren’t doing anything to fix it. So ask yourself is the American Justice System focusing on a specific race? As Americans are we being blind to this? Once we answer these questions we can finally move on and actually change something rather than just sweep it under the rug or turn the other way.
