Tupac Amaru Shakur, also know as 2pac, has appeared in various movies and has written many poems, but his legacy will forever remain in his music. Tupac passed away a little over two years ago leaving behind many examples of his lyrical diversity. I intend to show the contrast in Tupac’s lyrics from one album to another. One of the songs on Tupac’s album Me Against the World is called “Dear Mama”. In this song Tupac talks about how his mother managed to raise him regardless of the struggles they endured.
A good Example of the way Tupac Expresses these feelings comes from the middle of the song: Tupac wrote the song “Dear Mama” to express the amount of appreciation he had for his mother, as well as his childhood struggles he and his family experienced growing up in a poor area with only one parent in the household. Tupac isn’t only focusing on the things he did wrong, although that was his main focus. He was relaying a message of many children that are suffering from this same situation he struggled through as a kid.
Tupac says, “And even as a crack fiend mama, ya always was a black queen, mama”. He talks about his mother’s addiction to cocaine, and how he forgave the fact that she was using drugs, yet letting his mom know how much he loved her. He then talks about how he buys her a diamond necklace to show how much she means to him. He then proceeds to talk about all the sweet things his mother did for them when they were kids, and how she always loved and nurtured them. He basically says that he knows and appreciates all the wonderful things she did for them, and that he can never pay her back.
He also discusses issues that are happening throughout the United States. Some of the issues he is addressing are children growing up in single parent households, and children referring to gangs for father figures. Now that we know what Tupac was referencing in his song, we can understand the significance of how woman suffer today. Tupac says, “I shed tears with my baby sister over the years we was poorer than other little kids. ” What Tupac was expressing growing up with no father figure he and his sister did not have many things that other little kids had.
According to the United States Census Bureau reports show that the effects of coming from a low-income family can include things like lower education levels, lower economic achievements and can result in leaving the child feeling isolated and lonely.
