I did not know how hard it was to find a good scholarship until I tried to find one myself. Scholarships are not meant for just anyone they are meant for those who do the best in school and leave out the ones who just do OK in school. That brings me to why I am researching this topic. Scholarships are not given to students who prove they deserve to attend college, but cant afford to pay for it. There are not many books on this subject but because of the internet there are different website where you can look up this information. Also, if you look on the web at any scholarship you will find that you must have a 3.5 grade point average to even qualify for most scholarship.
Scholarships.com is one of the sites where I will get my references. So far all I have seen is that you need to have a 3.5 GPA and have done or are doing something positive in the neighborhood. I can see where you can get scholarships for women and athletes. I also see some for minorities but only if they are going to a majority University. My reason for this research is to find ways to get the scholarships for those people who want to go to college but did not make the best grades in high school. I want to find the grants for those who just cant get the scholarships or the loans for themselves to get into college.
I came across one grant that will help anyone but you have to go through a lot to even get it. Grants by Doyle Enterprise is one of the programs that can help people write grants but even programs like this you have to pay $30.00 or more in order to receive the information. What you have to do is write a grant for yourself. You have to explain what you need it for, and what you plan on doing with it. Now how can a person who has know experience in grant writing get this grant?
Well all I think is happening there is Doyle Enterprise is making money-getting people to think they can write a grant. To prove my point, another resource where you are suppose to learn how to write a grant is a book called Grant Writing For Dummies, written by Beverly Browning. This book talks about how to use words that make funding agencies say yes. The inside scoop on government grants, but it just does not do it justice, people are still having problems writing and getting the money.
Scholarships.com is the place I found the information I have used to share with you. Scholarships as I stated earlier are hard to find because everyone who wants one does not have the 3.5 grade point average needed to apply, they dont have the neighborhood involvement needed an some just dont know how and where to look for scholarships. I stated that you can get a minority scholarship for a majority University but you can not get one to go to the college of your choice, why is that.
What is the purpose of saying anyone can go to college but anyone cannot get a scholarship. The book Ill Grant You That say that it also can help you write a grant that would get the money needed to go to college. (Burke 120) However, I said earlier, if you do not know how to word or how to write your own grant to let the funding agencies know that you want to go to college, and that you need them to help you with tuition and other cost that are incurred by attending college, you will not receive this help.
If everyone has the right to go to college then equal opportunities should be given in order for one to make it a reality. These individuals that deserve equal opportunities are not just students with 3.5 GPAs or minority students who go to majority school, but students who have 3.0 GPAs and even those students who worked as hard as they could and Cs are the best grade they can get. Further, the student should be able to choose what college they would like to attend, and there should be scholarships that support these students. It will be interesting to see what the future will bring: hopefully it will bring out the true meaning to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
