Whitney Houston is considered to be one of the greatest singers of our generation. I chose her as my topic, because she represents resiliency and tenacity, despite her troubled experiences with drugs and her personal life. Whitney Houston comes from a big family with an amazing, musical pedigree her mother, Cissy Houston, was a successful singer for Aretha Franklin and Elvis Presley. Whitney was a people pleaser and if she did not please everybody, then it would take a toll on her and as a result, give her with a lot of distress and pain but that just how she was. I chose this song “I Will Always Love You” ..
‘I Will Always Love You’ is Whitney’s greatest moment and one of the greatest moments in American pop. It was bravura, sentimental and subject, as many of her recordings were, to dull studio contacts that sound frustratingly separated. It’s striking how many Whitney songs are, like ‘I Will Always Love You,’ songs of heartbreak. I mentioned this to someone in passing and was immediately corrected. But what about the uptempo songs such like as, ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’? Or ‘How Will I Know’? Not just saying you want to dance with somebody but more meaning to it. Or “ How Will I Know? There a lot of question that comes to mind. But even those songs are signs or love she’s not actually dancing with somebody who loves her right then; she isn’t with someone who she knows is the one. Of course, that’s not how these songs come across. This just says how Whitney could turn each verse, each tune, into an outflow of celebration. It’s a gospel artist’s touch, and it’s the one she left out for us.
From the beginning of the song we get attention, easy to understand and straightforward lyrics I feel as this song describe not only about letting someone who you love and always love, but it’s about not wanting to let go knowing you have to sometimes. It is about letting that person know how special they are and how they are unlike anyone else and nobody will be loved as much as that one person was. Also i feel as it’s about having to let go of true love, young or old love or your first love After Houston died on February 11, 2012, ‘I Will Always Love You’ was used in many tributes to the singer, as it was her best known song.
Whitney Houston’s version of “I Will Always Love You” is a cover of Dolly Parton’s original version. Dolly Parton wrote this song and her song effectively uses a combination of honest lyrics, persuasive instrumental, and the strategy of speaking instead of singing to include catharsis in her audience while giving them a reminder to cherish the loved ones in their lives. Dolly Parton wrote “I Will Always Love You” in 1972, and became a hit when it was released on the country music charts in 1974 . Dolly Parton wrote this song about Porter Wagoner who was her “one-time mentor” when she left her professional partnership with him to go out on her own. From my perspective I felt as it’s easy to remember the lyrics and tell the audience her story while conveying her emotional distress at the same time. Even if you have never felt the pain of a break up or anything, you can break it up and understand what the artist is going through and feel the sorrow in her words.
The fact that Whitney Houston sang this song way differently from Dolly Parton shows that she did have her own success with this song due to the difference in the way the song sounded. When people hear this song, they may often think first of Whitney as the singer. Whitney Houston’s version of this song falls into the musical of pop. When Whitney Houston died, the song hit the top of the charts once again. While both songs were in different musical genres implies that the audience for each was different, yet at the same time, both artists became known and acknowledged in each other’s general genre of pop.
Often times, the lyrics to a song are what appeals to fans, and in a cover song, it is common to see some change in the lyrics from the original version. While most of the words are the same in both versions, in Houston’s cover version, the words “My darling, you.” are present. This change emphasizes the difference of the intended meaning for the song. While both songs focus on a particular person, this version gives no doubt that there is a romantic interest involved. A main message of the song is that love is a powerful thing, but doesn’t come without obstacles. The lyrics show that no matter where life leads love can always be present.
The words “I” and “You” are stretched into two or more long syllables each, the song can be swell thee sentiments of many other. An to me when people love it the song, they really love it. More like mixed emotions. We still and have loved someone, either it is family members, close friends, or significant other people. In the time we will lose some of them might not be all. But songs that mean something to you like “I Will Always Love You” will always remind you on how that somebody that can love be loved. We should take time out to cherish the love we have, while we have the time too. And we can actually listen to the songs like this and be appreciative for having them around you in your life..
