Intro
Picture yourself at home alone with nothing to do, while your parents have gone away for the weekend, leaving you completely isolated. As you sit there in the evening, your attempts to find something interesting to watch on TV prove fruitless. Eventually, you head upstairs to your room to get ready for bed. You turn off the lights and close your eyes, when suddenly a crash of glass breaks the silence in your kitchen. Immediately alert, you jump up and press your ear against the door, trying to hear what is happening downstairs. Slowly but surely, you distinguish two voices coming from downstairs as they make their way through the living room and approach the stairs just outside your room. In this situation, what would be the action plan? It’s impossible not to acknowledge that there are believed to be two intruders; however, confronting them alone is out of question.
When confined to a room, the only desired outcome is for intruders to depart without causing any harm. However, if such an incident were to happen at my residence, I would approach it in a distinct manner. Firstly, I would procure my shotgun from the closet and proceed to examine the commotion occurring downstairs. The mere sight of me wielding a firearm would undoubtedly prompt the burglars to reassess their decision to remain.

One argument against implementing gun control is that controlling firearms would not decrease the homicide rate, despite the fact that two-thirds of homicides involve firearms. The reasoning behind this argument is that “human nature is what it is”. If guns were eliminated from crime scenes, criminals would turn to other weapons such as knives, clubs, axes, or even their own fists. This implies that guns alone are not responsible for causing death; individuals bear responsibility. Ultimately, these crimes occur due to some individuals harboring hatred towards others and will continue as long as hatred exists.
Myths
Many gun owners agree that proponents of gun control lack knowledge on the subject.

Yet Another Myth Is “Gun Control Reduces Crime”
- The National Institute of Justice concluded that over 20,000 gun control laws “had no impact in reducing criminal violence”
- A nationwide study found that violent crimes fell after states made it legal to carry concealed handguns.
- Also resulting in homicide decreasing by 8.5 percent, rape falling to 5 percent and aggravated assault dropped by 7 percent.
In the District of Columbia, civilians are prohibited from buying or having a handgun and keeping a loaded or assembled firearm in their home. Before 1976, crime rates were relatively low here but have since surged to become one of the highest in the nation.
