This report is to provide a recommendation to the South African market on an effective, affordable, sustainable health care model that will reduce the illness and diseases in South Africa, thereby contributing to productivity in the workplace thereby contributing to increasing South Africans GAP and economy. In South Africa, The economic and political structures which sustain poverty and scarification need to be transformed in order for poverty and poor health to be tackled.

Marginal’s groups and vulnerable individuals are often worst affected, deprived of the information, money or access to health services that would help them prevent and treat disease. Very poor and vulnerable people may have to make harsh choices – knowingly putting their health at risk because they cannot see their children go hungry, for example. South Africans unemployment rate is +-30% therefore the tax base is very low with only 70% of the populations contributing and tax revenue is the primary source f funding for the healthcare system.

The majority of the 70% who are employed do not earn sufficient income to enable them to enjoy any private health care at all so these persons are also reliant on the state for complete health care needs. Even though we currently spend more on health than what WHO recommends there are not sufficient doctors or medical facilities to provide a decent service to the population. As such it is vital that they explore alternative means of healthcare as well as reducing the dependency on the state to provide total healthcare

The cost of doctors’ fees, a course of drugs and transport to reach a health centre can be devastating, both for an individual and their relatives who need to care for them or help them reach and pay for treatment. In the worst cases, the burden of illness may mean that families sell their property, take children out of school to earn a living or even start begging. Overcrowded and poor living conditions can contribute to the spread of airborne diseases such as tuberculosis and respiratory infections such as pneumonia. Reliance on open fires or traditional stoves can lead to deadly indoor air illusion.

A lack of food, clean water and sanitation can also be fatal. The current burden of diseases which South African face are:- HIVE/Lads and Tuberculosis Maternal, Infant and Child Mortality Nan-communicable diseases (Diabetes, Cholesterol, High Blood Pressure) Depression and Stress Obesity Injury and Violence Despite South African carrying 0. 7% of the world’s population, the HIVE percentage is of the world population. Chart 1 HIVE % reflecting South Africa as the highest affected with HIVE/Aids Majority of the maternal and infant mortality is due to HIVE/Lads

The World Health Organization recommends that countries spend at least 5% of their GAP on health care. South Africa is already spends 8. 5% of its GAP on health, way above what WHO recommends. Despite this high expenditure the health outcomes remain poor when compared to other middle-income countries Chart 4: South Africans spending on Healthcare per GAP Capita in relation to other countries Poor Health results in:- Lower Life Expectancy Infection Rates rise Malnutrition Absenteeism from work Lack of money for goods and services as more money is being spent on healthcare Alcohol and Drug abuse Violence in household
