As a supervisor or manager, it’s their job to create and maintain a productive work environment for their team. If the team is not proactive, they might spend time on social media than on their work assignments. Wasted time will lead to wasted money in the workplace. As a supervisor or manager, it is your job to minimize this problem as much as possible. This can be a difficult process when you are dealing with employees with different personalities, age differences, and different cultures. The employee might not be browsing the web intentionally; as a supervisor or manager, you will still have to address the issue. Let your employees know that there are risks for being on social media at work.

Employees should be aware of accessing social media, and posting on social media at work will be prohibited. Posting negative comments at work can destroy the trust and confidence supporting the employment relationship with the company. This restriction can prevent employees from posting material or comments, which may be seen as offensive or have a detrimental effect on our company. This will allow the supervisor or manager to take action against the employee if they fail to follow the policy.

Listed below are ways to minimize wasted time at works.

1. Create a productive working environment:

  • Training ensures that employees ae o the same page
  • The employee will be giving a letter of expectation.
  • Monitoring performance
  • Giving employees a to-do list

2. Deal with social media distractions:

  • Address the issue of employees spending too much time on social media
  • Put up firewalls on certain websites
  • Monitoring internet usage.

3. Notice the signs:

  • Employees leaning on their desk
  • Looking out the window
  • Leaving the office and mingling in other departments

The formal research method I used for this essay was searching the internet. Searching the internet helps me to learn new information and to get a better understanding, other businesses, and their employees with which they interact — also interviewing the employees that I work with — and conducting a survey on employees and their usage of social media at work. My Informal research method was done by searching through files, reading memos, and letters that were giving to employees and talking with my boss and other managers.
