Animal Farm is a unique farm with a variety of interesting characters. Clover is one of these animals that live on the farm. She is a motherly mare who forges friendships with many other animals. Clover is a carthorse, along with her friend Boxer. They pull the heavy weights that require strength on the farm. In George Orwell Animal Farm Clover is loyal, gentle, and has trouble expressing her thoughts in to words. Clover is one of the most loyal followers of Animalism on the farm. She is devoted to the cause and insists on having the others accept these beliefs. Their most faithful disciples were the two carthorses, Boxer and Clover.
These two had great difficulty in thinking anything out for themselves, but having once accepted he pigs as their teachers, they absorbed everything they were told, and passed it on to the other animals by simple arguments〠(37). She supports Animal Farm ideals and is always trying to help. Clover is loyal to the farm and the other animals. Her loyalty is a large part of her character. Clover is also very caring and shows compassion towards her friends and comrades. Boxer is her closest friend and she cares for him very much. The pigs had sent out a large bottle of pink medicine chest in the bathroom, and Clover administered it to Boxer twice a day after meals. In the evenings she lay in his stall and talked to him(122).
Since Boxer is her closest companion, Clover will do anything Boxer requires when he is not well. Just to give a sick friend company shows how very caring she can be. Everyone appreciates a caring individual. Clover is a character that has trouble expressing her thoughts into words. Although she has her own opinions, she keeps them to herself. lf she could have spoken her thoughts, it would have been to say this was not what they had aimed at when they set themselves years ago to work for the overthrow of the human race. Such were her thoughts, though she lacked the words to express them (95). After witnessing the slaughter of their fellow animals, Clover and many of the surviving animals huddle together to think. As she thinks of all that has happened, she realizes that trying to speak her thoughts is useless. Clover realizes that the farm does not seem like such a wondrous place anymore.
It is unfortunate that she cannot vocalize these important thoughts. No other animal on the farm is as loyal, caring, and still troubled by his or her difficulties of speaking as Clover is. The other animals on Animal Farm have their own qualities, but Clover is special. She is unique and also hardworking. Clover could be considered the heart of the farm animals because she brings them together in her own way. Her friends enjoy her company. She is an exceptional character that is often overlooked. And to give a sick friend company shows how very caring. And she cares for him very much.
