In the early days of personal computers, both dropped out of college and launched their own businesses. Of the two, the late Steve Jobs was always the quick, live-for-the-moment hare, while Bill Gates was the dispassionate, lawyerly, bide-your-time tortoise” (Wilson). “Above all else, though, these rivals understood business.
Neither had formal training in the black arts of balance sheets and income statements” (Lashing’s). Stated an article from CNN. Although each company has its own hilltop’s, there is a slight difference between Microsoft’s and Apple’s philosophies because each philosophy has a different goal. Microsoft’s philosophy is; “A computer on every disk in every house, running Microsoft software,” which is more focused and concerned about running their own software in every computer.
As for Apple’s philosophy, it is “Make computers accessible to everyone and make it very easy to use,” and that is more concerned about making their computers being easy to access and making it as easy as they can for everyone else to use. They both established and co- mounded their companies along with another person (co-founder). Bill Gates co-founded Microsoft with Paul Allen who dropped out of Washington State University to follow his and Bill Gates dream of writing software commercially for the new personal computer at the time.
However, In November 2000 Allen resigned from his position on the Microsoft board. As for Apple, it was co- founded by Steve Jobs and Steve Woozier who is credited with initiating the entry of computers into private homes and he also wrote most of the software that Apple ran. Bill Gates first major achievement was the velveteen of a programming language called “BASIC” for the Altair computer which is the first commercially successful personal computer. As for Steve Jobs, his first big achievement was “Apple II,” which was the most popular and best-selling personal computer during its time.
There is a difference between their first achievements because Microsoft first development was a software whereas Apple’s first product was a hardware. As time has passed for both of them, their differences were shown. Since developing the first “Windows” operating system, the Morocco’s team along tit Gates has developed multiple operating systems such as “Windows XP” and “Windows 8,” which improved in use and graphical quality, along with the creation and development on the “Oxbow,” which was released in 2001, a gaming console created from part of the team.
As stated in the Entrepreneur, Apple’s” innovations were just getting started. Over the next decade, the company rolled out a series of revolutionary products, including the pod portable digital audio player in 2001 , an online marketplace called the Apple tunes Store in 2003, the phone handset in 2007 and the pad tablet imputer in 201 0″ (Staff). This showing just how different the two companies have now become both hardware and software wise. To this day, both of them are known for their multiple advancements in technology whether it be in software or hardware.
