The capability to express and manage own emotion is crucial, but same goes to own ability to interpret, and respond to the emotions of others. Everyone was born differently, based on culture, core-values and belief that play part of the human roles. Some people are smart at thinking how other people might feel, however, not everyone have the ability to do the same. Psychologists named this ability as emotional intelligence, and some experts even mentioned that it be could more significant than IQ, in a person overall success in life. (Cherry, 2019). The emotional intelligence refers to the capability to control, perceive, and evaluate emotions. Researchers suggested that emotional intelligence can be thought and mastered while others believe that it was an inborn characteristic. (Cherry, 2019).
With regard to emotional intelligence, two researchers known as Peter Salovey and John Mayer coined the term emotional intelligence in 1990. They explained and described it as “ a form of social intelligence that involves the ability to monitor one’s own and other’s feelings and emotions to discriminate among them, and to use this information to guide one’s thinking and action” (Cherry, 2019). There are four main components of emotional intelligence: Self-Awareness, Self -Management, Social-Awareness and Relationship Management. (Kase, 2018). Among all elements, there is one needs to improve as a student: which is Self-Awareness. The main reason why I intent to develop and improve this emotional intelligence because as a student, an employee, and elder son in family, I have family commitment, online studies, and long hours jobs need to be taken care off. As a result, overtasking leads me of being forgetful, and lack of self-awareness. For instance, when I am doing many things simultaneously, I tend to left something behind, and moments later when everything settled, I recheck my “to do list” and I realize that something were missing. Therefore, self-awareness is crucial manifestation practices, as it allows us to understand our thoughts and action.
The Expectancy Theory of Victor Vroom were designed and specialize with motivation and management. Compared to the Herzberg and Maslow theories, they are more focused on the relationship between internal needs and the resulting effort expended to accomplish them, while Vroom’s expectancy theory split effort which rise from motivation, outcomes, and performance. According to Vroom’s expectancy theory, it assumes that behavior results from conscious choices among alternatives whose purpose it is to maximize pleasure and minimize pain. (Metcalf, 2020) This theory was developed by Victor H. Vroom from Yale University in the year 1964 and later extended by Porter and Lawler in 1968. Vroom comprehend that an employee’s performance is based on the factors of each individuals, such as abilities, experience, personality, and skills. (Metcalf, 2020). Additionally, the theory is based upon the three following beliefs which is Expectancy, Instrumentality, and Valence.
As a student and member of this class, I will describe my level of efforts by applying each part of Vroom Expectancy Theory. First, my expectancy is to hit the targets that been set by my professor and provide my best efforts and performance as I can. Second, in instrumentality, I believe as long I fulfil the requirements and follow the right method that been thought in this class, I will receive a good result for my efforts and studies. Finally, in valence, all for the hard work and time spend in this class, the outcome and my goal to deeply understand the principle of management and to pass this class with good score would possibly come true. Vroom expectancy theory has highly motivated me to achieve goals and be one of the high-performance students.
The globalization has full impact for companies and workplace that yet to be realized, however, many companies support, embrace this trend and it become more diverse, certain changes are emerging. Meanwhile many of these changes are mostly good but, some may not be as positive. Due to these changes, small business owners are learning to adapt new guidelines and new policies to progress with these changes. In a cultural, religious and ethnic diversity in the workplace, requires for more employee training to protect their companies and their new employees from discrimination. Managers must have a strategy to implement policies and provide training to ensure everyone corporate as a team. This leads to a greater appreciation of different cultures and viewpoints in some companies. As the globalization has becomes more prevailing companies handles with increased numbers of cultural diversity within the workforce. In addition, the expansion of cultural diversity also has generated a lot of benefits as companies obtain new insights into different background and cultures from a management and a marketing standpoint.
There are some advantages and disadvantages of globalization impact. Globalization supporters claim that it has the power to make this world a better place to live in and solve some chronic problems like poverty and unemployment. For the pros in globalization, it also supplies poor countries, through infusions of foreign capital and modern technology with the opportunity to expand and develop economically and spreading prosperity. (Collins, 2015). It establishes the conditions in which democracy and the respect for human right may bloom. Unfortunately, this ethereal goal has not been achieved in most countries in the world. For the cons, as more products became available at lower prices from oversee markets while less of the same products are being sold by the U.S companies (Collins, 2015). Lower in demand has led to decreases in manufacturing which resulted in job losses across the board. According to (Collins, 2015), there are no stop in globalization, however, there are a lot of strategies and policies tat can be used to make it more equitable. Therefore, we can only enforce regulations such as the trade laws and force the competition to follow the same rules and stop giving the competitors tools to win the global war. (Collins, 2015.)
