George Washington was the Commander-in-Chief of the Continental army. He led them all through the American revolution. He was a very intelligent man and a very good leader. Having such a high position during the war helped the people trust him into leading our country. He was elected unanimously and re-elected unanimously. He would become the only president in history to be elected unanimously. Washington was also the president of the constitutional convention which occurred in 1787. During this convention, the constitution was written. George Washington was one of the founding fathers who helped establish not only the constitution but also the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson, who was also a founding father.
The Constitution established our country’s fundamental laws as well as our government. This document secured basic rights for the citizens of the United States of America. The Declaration of Independence was in Philadelphia on July 4th, 1776. This document gave America independence. It gave the United States of America freedom. Without these two documents, our country would be nowhere close to being the same. They both hold a landmark in the history of our country.
George Washington had many accomplishments during his time as president. He reduced the nation’s debt with the help of Alexander Hamilton. He established many treaties with the Native Americans to instill peace between each other. Washington also signed a bill to put a tariff on distilled spirits; however, this caused chaos and protests mainly in Pennsylvania and other rural areas. He invoked the militia act of 1792 which gave the militia the authority to stop the rebellion. This act made a statement to the people of America. It showed them that he was willing to do whatever was necessary to do what was best for our country. Implementing the Jays Treaty was probably one of the most its most important actions for George. This treaty made the United States neutral. He sent a man by the name of John Jay to Britain to clear up issues from the past war and to instill peace between the two countries.
The formation of political parties started to occur towards the end of Washington’s presidency. Alexander Hamilton, who was the Treasury secretary at the time, was Ideabeloved in a strong national government. Thomas Jefferson, who was the Secretary of State, beloved in a smaller central government. Jefferson believed the freedom of citizens of America would be better protected if the government was smaller and more local. People who were with Hamilton on his idea of a strong national government took the name of the Federalists. Those who agreed with Jefferson and supported him took the name Anti-federalists, better known as Democratic-Republicans; however, Washington didn’t believe in political parties. in being united instead of separating our government into different sides with different beliefs. He didn’t want the Ideasgovernment to turn against each other and form different beliefs. Washington wanted everyone to be on the same page, but he would soon learn that this was not going to happen. The ideas of both Hamilton and Jefferson proposed a two-party system within our government.
In March 1797, he turned over the presidency position to a man by the name of John Adams. George Washington set a high bar for presidents to follow. Despite being the first president of the United States and not having anBefore political knowledge at all, Washington would go down as one of the greatest presidents this country has ever seen. He was a true leader with incredible integrity. If it wasn’t for George Washington, there is is telling started nonot telling what our country would be like today. He set the standards for many years to come. He wasn’t only a war hero, but he was also a hero to our county. He laid the foundation of our country and the people of America are forever thankful for him.
John Adams would take over as president after Washington. He was a pretty good president, but he would not compare to George Washington or Thomas Jefferson, the president to follow. Thomas Jefferson played a huge role in America’s early development. Before being president, he was the governor of Virginia. He was already in politics before the presidencythepresidencythe so the president position wasn’t something he wasn’t used to. He was elected president in the year 1800. He would become one of the most influential people in the development of our country.
Thomas Jefferson was a very successful president with many accomplishments. He purchased a huge chunk of land known as the Louisiana Territory for 15 million dollars. This piece of land doubled the size of the United States. He sent two men by the name port’sLewis and Clark to explore the territory. He also wrote the Declaration of Independence, one of the most important documents of our country. During his 2nd term of office, he tried to keep America out of the Napoleonic wars in Britain. France and Britain began harassing American ships. Jefferson then introduced the embargo act of 1807 which closed American ports foretoignforeign trade. This decision was made to maintain neutrality, but it didn’t last for very long. In 1809 the act was repealed, and in 1812 we went to war with Britain.
Jefferson was a former slave owner. He chose not to run for a third term and returned bacon to his plantation in Virginia. Slavery was very common during this time. Up until America’s 16th president, slavery was almost occurring onin, every southern part of the United States. One president, however, its, took a stand and was a major influence on the end of slavery. Abraham Lincoln was one of the most important, if not the most important president of all time. With his influeninfluenceitsces as a president, the southern way of living would completely change as we know it.
During Lincoln’s presidency, the country was divided into two sides, the union and the confederacy. The confederacy even formed itsgovernmentsstates reasons constitution. The southern states who were for slavery were the confederates, and the northern states opposing slavery were known as the union. A civil war began between the two sides. Abraham Lincoln allowed slaves to fight for the union. If the south were to win this war, slavery would continue, and if the north were to win, slavery would be abolished. Abraham Lincoln becoming president was taken as a threat to some southerners. They knew that Lincoln was against slavery, and slavery was the southern way of life.
Lincoln established the Emancipation Proclamation. This document freed more than 3.5 million African Americans who were enslaved. This was one of the main reasonreasonsgovernments for the civil war because the south rebelled and refused to free their slaves. This caused a huge frenzy betweenamonggoverments government. It even got so bad that the southern stateit started electedelectin their own president to lead the confederacy. Our country had been divided into two with two different presidents. This is exactly what George Washington didn’t want to happen.
The war went on and the union squeezed out a victory. Just 4 months after the war, Abraham Lincoln delivered one of the most famous speeches of all time called the Gettysburg Address. This speech startedaretellingstarted itstartedsit startedtelling dieoppo tellin it started startedsestartedas opposeopposedthe that all men were created equal and that he wants the north and south to come together as one United country again. Lincoln didaslooking dien’t treat this is a breaking point between the governments and the country as a whole. He treated this situation as a uniting between the north and the south. Due to the war, the southern states were left in ruin and debt. Lincoln took action and gave supplies to them hoping that they would join back with the union, and they did just that. This was a huge turning point, not only for the growth die statesofstates o our government differenttellingelecting-lookingdie who but also for our country as a whole.
There have been many good presidentpresidentsdifferent-looking and many bad presidents. Every single president has been different in many ways. Abraham Lincoln was our tallest president, standing at 6’4. The shortest president our country ever saw was James Madison, standing at only 5’4. He was a little over 5 inches smaller than the average man. The largest president we’ve had is William Howard Taft who weighed 350 pounds. He was so big there is a story of him getting stuck in his bathtub. There has been a variety of different lookingdifferent-lookingdie who presidents. Some of our presidents didn’t live to make ihaspresidentst out of office. There have been four died who presidents diewho died of natural causes and also four dyingpreparemake due to assassination. Abraham Lincoln was the first person to be assassinated in office. It’s crazy to know that he did so much for our country and never lived to see how his influences would change the United States.
In total, there have been 45 United States presidents, including Donald Trump. What does a president do exactly? Not many people know what their exact job is. The president had many roles and responsibilities. He is the Chief Executive, Commander in Chief, Foreign Policy Director, and Legislative Leader. He has the power to appoint federal officials, enforce laws, preparespreparemake our national budget, and makes federal policies. He is in control of our armed services, which gives him the position of Commander of two-thirds in Chief. The president has to meet with leaders from foreign countries and make treaties. The president can propose a law, but that does not mean that the law will be passed. Congress can veto a law by the president with a two-thirdsand vote thirds. The president can also veto any bill or law passed by Congress.
Once someone becomes president, that doesn’t necessarily mean they are guaranteed four years in office. The president could be asked to resign, or a tragedy could happen affecting the healthier and of him or her. If this situation were to happen, the next man in line would be the Vice President. He would take over as president and do everything that he or she did prior. If something were to happen Vice President, and the Speaker of the House would then take over. Next after the Speaker of the House is the President pro tempore of the Senate. The list would continue to go on through congress. Thankfully, our country has never made it past the Vice President taking over.
Congress was formed in 1789. A lot of people don’t know that our congress is split up into two chambers, the Senate and the House of Representatives. The senate belongs to the legislative branch. They help make the laws for our government. They cite and write on new laws. For arsenate, of a law to be carried out, the House of Representatives must pass the law as well. Once it has passed through both the senateSenatetwo-year and the House of Representatives, the bill must then be signed by the president to become a law. The House of Representatives writes and passes federal laws. A senator is elected every two-year six years third and opposes members of of thofourserve two-year terms. The United States Congress is sometimes overlooked and undervalued. Congress plays a huge role in the United States government. People generally think that the president does everything for our country. There are a lot more aspects that come into play.
There are three branches within our government, the legislative, executive, and judicial branches. They all play a big role within our government. The legislative branch includes congress, which is made up of the Senate and House of Representatives. This branch of government introduces bills to Congress. In other words, the legislative branch makes and introduces laws within outourof congress government. Sometimes ho,themwever, the president himself will make laws and have congress sign off on itthemof congress. The next branch is the executive branch. The executive branch is made up ofCongress the president, Vice President, the cabinet, and also federal agencies. This branch is responsible for enforcing and carrying out the laws that are formally written by Congress. The executive branch pretty much does everything that the president does. The last branch of government is the judiciary branch. The judiciary branch interprets the laws writCongresspartiesten by congress and the president. It is made up of the Supreme Court and other federal courts. This branch also helped decide whether a law violates the constitution or not. These 3 branches make up our federal government. They play a great role in how our government works.
There are also many political parties in the United States. However, the most known and important parties are the Democratic and Republican partiepartiesopposed. These two political parties were morphed into what was originally known as the Federalists, and Anti-Federalists. These parties however have developed different beliefs over time. The Democratic Party supports more government spending on social services aopposes oppose oppos to putting our money into the military. Democrats don’t believe in social security or any welfare programs. They do support the unchristian-like belief of abortion. This plays a big role in why a lot of Christians support the Republican Party. The Republican Party believes in higher tax rates, and they also believe that private spending is much more efficient than government spending Republicans support the beliefs of what a rational man would believe. They think people should take responsibility for their own actions. The beliefs of a democrat are very irrational. Any rational man should be able to govern himself and take control of his or haveer of congressactionscongress actionsthatactions the party’s part opposed government growth the was have that looking die Rationality plays a big role in the Republican beliefs.
Presidency and government as a whole havethat parties changed vastly over time. It has been a pretty bumpy road to get where we are today, but we are a United nation thatparties has something that no country has, and that is freedom. This is the greatest country on earth. All the people of the United States are truly blessed due to the sacrifices our founding fathers and past people of our country have made. Without the decisions of the people of our country made hundreds of years ago, our country would be nowhere close to the same.
