Explain how the Bible shows God as creator God is shown as creator through out the beginning of the bible in many different passages. This clearly teaches Christians that God created everything in the world and bought it all into existence. The main creation story at the very beginning of the bible is Genesis 1 – 3. This passage clearly goes over what God created and then goes into the creation of humans and explains there special responsibilities. Genesis 1 grasps the concept of creatio ex nihlo by saying ‘now the earth was formless and empty’ showing that God is omnipotent and has the power to create from nothing.
It also uses the idea of God being anthropomorphic and giving him human like qualities. He is said to shape the world with his breath and he commands everything to come about each day again showing his omnipotence and that he is above creation. In Genesis 2, God is shown as creator in a more anthropomorphic way, usually described as a kind of craftsman. ‘the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. The Bible uses this human imagery of God to make him more personal and understandable to his followers. It is a difference between the God of religion and the God of philosophy; it shows the care that Christians feel towards God even though he isn’t human. Another quote later on in Genesis 3 showing again this anthropomorphic quality of God in these creation accounts is ‘heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden. ’ This quote goes against the idea of God being omniscient and omnipresent which makes God seem less scary and more human like.
However, later on in the passage when God punishes Adam and Eve and the serpent for sinning, you can see that he is omnipotent and above human beings as he is the creator and has power over all. There are other creation accounts, such as Psalm 8 showing God again as a craftsman and that he brought everything into being because he is above creation. Also Isaiah 40 and Job 38-39 show these qualities so the Bible has many accounts as God being a creator and of him being proud of the beauty he has brought into existence.
There are problems with taking the Bible accounts literally though because you would then disagree with such scientific facts such as evolution. However, the fundamental points of these Bible accounts is that God is the thing that has brought everything into existence because he is unique and above creation. He is made to have human qualities, but he is not in fact personal, it just makes it easier to understand for the followers of Christianity. God also puts a lot of trust into humans as he has made them in his image, so does God need to take blame for all of his creation as we have so much control?
