The rapid advancement of hyperconnectivity and technology in today’s world is leading to an increasing number of individuals purchasing and using products for their daily needs. These products have proven to be highly beneficial, but there is a growing concern about users developing addiction and excessive reliance on them. Over the past fifteen years, significant changes have occurred, particularly in the field of technology. Hyperconnectivity has completely transformed the world, changing people’s lifestyles and thought processes. This raises questions about whether individuals have control over these products or if they are being controlled by them. This essay will examine the advantages and disadvantages of hyperconnectivity. Two decades ago, most people were unaware of what the future held for technology. Everyday items like books, landline phones, newspapers, mail services, and radios were commonplace. Libraries were relied upon for information while newspapers provided updates on movie showtimes and global news events. Similarly, sending messages involved writing them down, attaching a stamp, and sealing an envelope.
With hyperconnectivity, accessing information and performing basic tasks has become easier as physical visits to the library have been replaced by using computers, laptops, or smartphones to access the Internet. The internet also offers email accounts, social networks, and entertainment options. Consequently, libraries, traditional mail services, and newspapers are experiencing decreased demand. Moreover, cellphones are evolving into portable computers known as smartphones.
The internet enables access to information and communication with people from anywhere. It provides a vast source of knowledge and learning opportunities. However, hyperconnectivity also has its drawbacks. People are becoming addicted to constantly changing products and their rapid growth. Each new product quickly renders the previous one outdated, leading to an expensive addiction.
Instead of purchasing separate books, mail services, and home phones, individuals now choose to buy expensive cell phones that encompass all these functions in one device. While this may seem advantageous in some ways, it also leads to the intrusion of these products into one’s leisure time, often without people even realizing it due to lack of awareness. Although hyperconnectivity can be intrusive, addictive, and costly, it undeniably simplifies and accelerates daily tasks. Despite opposition towards the rapid expansion of hyperconnectivity, its benefits outweigh its drawbacks.
