An important conflict in the film Little Miss Sunshine, directed by (Jonathan Dayton and Valeria Faris) Is when the Hoovers family is at their destination, the beauty paegent. Visual features such as colour and camera shots are used to convey the importance of the conflict of the beauty pageant. Because of these features, the conflict can give the audience a strong idea of how our world today judges people and weighs heavy burdens on us to make us the people whom they want us to be.
The important conflict in Little Miss Sunshine occurs when the Hooverys family arrives at the beauty contest for Little Miss Sunshine in California. They arrive at the contest and the setting there was very bright and feminine, the place was packed with girls arround Olives age and they were all getting ready to compete. The lighting on the stage and the backgrounds all looked artifical and gave a feeling of fakeness and intensity.
The girls on stage looked appalling due to the fact they all looked like plastic dolls with fake tans and cosmetics. it frightened the Hooverys family and certain members were concerned about Olive competing on stage. “I don’t want thoes people judging Olive” But at the end, the family decides to let Olive do what she wanted to do, and watched her perform from below. They gave her many warm and encouraging smile because her performance stood out enormusly from the other girls. Olive: Really? Sheryl: You were great. Frank: You were better than great. Dwayne: You were incredible. ” The family all wanted Olive to be fulfilled with pride and proudness at that contest because it was what she wanted to do. The verbal features of dialogue and sound effects are used to give you a sense of excitment in the pageant and to grip your feelings towards the imatureness and fakeness of the whole conteset.
