Movie Review: “Tron: Legacy”

Table of Content

TRON: Legacy is a 3D action-packed adventure set in a digital world unlike anything captured on the big screen. Garrett Hedlund (Sam Flynn), a rebellious 27-year-old, is haunted by the mysterious disappearance of his father Jeff Bridges (Kevin Flynn), a man once known as the world’s leading video-game developer. When Hedlund investigates a strange signal sent from the abandoned Flynn’s Arcade that could have only come from his father he finds himself pulled into a world where Bridges has been trapped for 20 years.

With the help of the fearless warrior Olivia Wilde (Quorra), father and son embark on a life-or-death journey across a visually stunning digital universe, which has become far more advanced with original vehicles, weapons, and landscapes and a ruthless villain who will stop at nothing to prevent their escape. Joseph Kosinski’s TRON: Legacy is actually a remake of Steven Lisberger’s 1982 film, Tron. This reproduced film is a huge improvement in the special effects and animation category. Although this might be expected seeing as the budget for the newer film’s budget was 153 million dollars more than the original.

Also the film is applauded for its excellent soundtrack produced by the popular electronic duo Daft Punk. Not only is the content of the movie good, but the acting was something to mention of its own. Each actor or actress must have put great effort into their characters and how they are portrayed throughout the film. The animation and special effects of this film deserve a definite five star rating. Weather its the amazing display of lights, mind-blowing ways of transportation, intense battle scenes, or even the architectural layout of the game world.

Lighting is a main focal point when seeing this film, because it is brilliantly presented from start to finish. As for the battle scenes, could you possibly ask for more? The extreme action of them will easily have you on the edge of your seat. Also who can forget the unique and futuristic designs of technology within the film? Before a character can use a vehicle it must first unravel from a smaller object and quickly build and transform itself into a way of transportation right before your eyes. The film features the well known electronic music duo Daft Punk.

Daft Punk adds to almost every scene within the movie using their vast knowledge of music. For example, when the scene is calm and soothing, there is also a soothing tone playing along in the background. When it is chaotic there might also be a complementing music present. Director Kosinski even profoundly pointed it out as a humorous joke during one instance of the film. The plot is very interesting and never really gets to a dull point within. You are constantly presented with twists and surprises as the film runs its course.

The setting is actually split between a large downtown city and a fictional, masterly designed city within a game. This in game setting has very advanced looking structures mixed with fantastic lighting the will amaze you without a doubt. When the mood is off pleasant then you might be confronted with a reddish color to everything and when the mood is enjoyable then you will be presented with a whitish, happier color to everything. Also where there is life, there is color and where there is no life, there is lack of color.

Main character, Hudlund, does an amazing job with pointing out his characters many strengths and flaws. He presents a more lazy individual within the real world; dropping out of school and staying content with his average everyday life. Whereas within the game you can see his undying spirit to achieve his goals and escape the world they have become trapped within. You can hear the disbelievement in his voice when he finds out that he is actually in a game and says, “This isn’t happening! Bridges also does an incredible job with his role. He is depicted as an aging, genius male that still has the fighting edge to keep going once he is started. At first it may seem that he has lost hope, but once ignited he displays a grand effort of escape. As Wilde says in the film, “Make it there alive. And he’ll find you. ” Overall this film is a must see for all ages. Whether its the acting, music, effects, or characters that interest you, they are all outstanding throughout this adventurous film.
