As human beings, we all have different qualities and strengths that distinguish us from the rest of the world and help us to establish our own identities. When I think of my strengths that define me as an individual, I consider the following qualities. I believe I am a personable guy. No matter what room I find myself in, no matter who I find myself surrounded by, I believe my attitude and charisma allows me to fit in and prosper during any situation. This is a quality that I have learned to appreciate about myself, because one of my favorite things to do is meet new people. A recent example of this has simply been attending Loyola Marymount these past two years.
Coming from a small suburb in Dallas Texas, I was very curious and intimidated as to how well I would fit in at my new college, especially since I had zero friends here in Los Angeles prior to moving to LMU. However, I soon learned that not knowing a soul worked to my advantage. I could begin a new chapter of my life at this school and start over, and I soon found a group of friends that made this school feel like home to me. I would like to utilize this personality trait of mine in the future world of accounting, and I feel like this trait would differentiate me from other accountants. Another quality that I possess that differentiates me from the rest is being inquisitive.
Throughout my entire life, I have been curious to travel, learn and experience new and exciting things. As of now, I have been to 6 of the 7 world continents and I am hoping to cross the last one off the list very shortly. I believe my travel and experience living in multiple places has diversified me and made me a more well-rounded individual. Furthermore, I like to be challenged. Coming from a southern home, many of my friends ended up in a big southern state school. However, I wanted to take a different path. I decided to attend a small private university in Los Angeles which was basically unheard of where I was from. I believe this attribute will carry me far in life, and this quality was one of the main reasons that I decided to take up the challenge of majoring in accounting.
The last quality of mine is organization, which I believe contributes to every aspect of my life. Since arriving at college, my life has been a non-stop battle between managing my studies and my personal life. By being organized and creating a structured plan for my life has taken so much stress off my plate. By utilizing this strength in the workplace, It will allow me to finish work to the best of my ability, and in a timely and organized manner. A recent example of how I use organization and time management in my life was when I took ownership of my childhood dog. Recently my family was about to give my dog away, and to prevent that I had to take complete ownership of her. By adding another big responsibility to my plate this semester, I have had to completely change my schedule to revolve around my dog and I, while at the same time continuing to work hard and maintain grades in class.
When I think about what I am passionate about in my life today I immediately think of my friends and family. When things are tough or when I am at a point in my life where I am stuck, my family and friends will always be there for me. They inspire me and motivate me every day which is everything I could ask for. Aside from my family, one of the things I am most excited and passionate about is my future. I am passionate about pursuing the world of business, which is the main reason I decided to come to LMU and join the business school. I chose to focus on business because the skills I will learn in the business school will be easily transferrable to basically any job I may end up having. Business schools place a huge emphasis on pushing students to think critically, to solve real world problems on their own, and to manage their time wisely.
