King Hamlet was killed by his brother, Claudius, who stabbed him in the heart with a poisoned sword.
The murder took place while King Hamlet was sleeping in his bed. His body was discovered by his queen, Gertrude. She was overcome with grief at her husband’s death.
Hamlet’s friend, Horatio, witnessed the murder and later confirmed it to Prince Hamlet (the son of King Hamlet) while they were both on watch one night near the castle walls.
Prince Hamlet then avenged his father’s death by killing Claudius with a poisoned sword that he had found in Claudius’ closet after he had been crowned king of Denmark following his father’s death.
