Detailed answer:

A family unit is a group of people who are related to one another by blood or marriage. A family unit typically consists of a mother, father and their children. A family unit can also include grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. A family unit is considered to be the basic unit of society. A family unit provides love, support, and security for its members. In addition to providing love and support for its members, a family unit can also be a source of conflict and stress. Each member assumes different roles within the family unit based on age differences and gender roles within that culture/society. Although some families are more dysfunctional than others, most families provide their children with a safe environment in which they can grow up without fear of abandonment or physical harm. In addition to being able to grow up without fear of abandonment or physical harm, most children find that they are able to form healthy relationships with at least one parent figure from whom they learn valuable lessons about life and how to navigate through it successfully as an adult.
