What Is The Theme of Romeo and Juliet?

Updated: November 28, 2022
The theme of Romeo and Juliet is love and hate.
Detailed answer:

There are many themes in Romeo and Juliet, but the one that stands out the most is love. The love between Romeo and Juliet is beautiful, tragic, and powerful. Love is a powerful source that can overcome any obstacle. We see this when Romeo doesn’t care about his family’s disapproval or the law against his marriage to Juliet. He knows he loves her and wants to be with her regardless of what anyone else thinks or says. He proves this by sneaking into her house at night, despite knowing that it could get him killed if caught by her father or any other guards he might encounter along the way. True love never dies. We see this when Romeo and Juliet both commit suicide after learning of each other’s deaths; they believe their love will continue on even after death because they were soulmates who were meant to be together forever. They believed their love would transcend death itself so they could be together forever in heaven (or hell). Love conquers all. This theme comes up throughout the play when we see Romeo going against everything he knows or believes just because he loves Juliet so much that nothing else matters anymore–not even his own life or reputation (both of which end up destroyed due to his actions). Romeo and Juliet is a timeless story of two star-crossed lovers who were willing to sacrifice everything for their love. Romeo and Juliet had a lot of obstacles to overcome but their love was strong enough to make them keep going.
