Nick feels responsible for getting people to the funeral of Gatsby because he was the one who introduced Gatsby to the people who came to the funeral. In Chapter 9, Nick explains that he had gotten all of his friends together at his house in order to get ready for the party that they were going to attend after Gatsby’s funeral. He then explains that he “sent them off in sections,” which means that he sent his friends off in groups so that they could get ready together. This means that Nick is responsible for introducing Gatsby’s friends to each other, which means that he is responsible for why these people came out to pay their respects at Gatsby’s funeral.
