As practitioners, you need judges who ‘get it. We need judges who understand what discrimination feels like. We need judges who understand what inequality feels like. We need judges who understand the subtleties of unfair treatment and who are willing to call it out when they see it” (Schultz). Discrimination is a differentiating treatment of an individual based on their race, gender identity, color, age and others. It has existed in many traditions, ideas and laws, in every part of the world since the beginning of humanity.
The effects of racial, sexual, and religious discrimination have both mental and physical consequences such as: depression, stress and anxiety. “A lot of people don’t realize that depression is an illness. I don’t wish it on anyone, but if they would know how it feels, I swear they would think twice before they just shrug it “(Jonathan). Depression is a low state of mood and activity; it causes a negative effect on person’s emotions, behavior and physical wellness. In men, depression is a common illness, one in six men have experience it in their lifetime.
As doctor says, if depression isn’t noticed early will become severe and hazard. In addition, women have some protection from depression, due to female brain chemistry and sex hormones. Nevertheless, depress children’s are the most affected, they frequently hide their feelings, so parents wouldn’t identified if their child is actually depressed. “Stress can lead to major depression in susceptible people. Both types of stress lead to over activity of the body’s stress-response mechanism” (Bruno). Stress is a somatic reaction to happenings that make you feel disappointed in some way.
When you are facing stress over your daily schedule, your body responds as you were going through a life or death situation due to that your body couldn’t separate you’re physically and psychological threats. Long term experiences of stress can cause you grave health problems such as: heart attacks, obesity and sleep difficulties. “Stress and anxiety are not entirely different conditions. In many ways, anxiety may be considered long term stress, and long term stress may be a component of an anxiety disorder” (Calm Clinic). Anxiety is a psychological condition that causes a feeling of fear, worry, fatigue and muscle tension.
To result from every characteristic named before Anxiety disorder may cause a person drug abuse, anorexia and bulimia. Although it is more common in women, men and children can acquire this illness. All in all, is important to recognize all the consequences that the effects of racial, sexual and religious discrimination have. Depression, stressed and anxiety are some of them but not the only ones; that’s why we must promote tolerance, freedom and respect. “The only difference between man and man all the world over is one of degree, and not of kind, even as there is between trees of the same species. Where in is the cause for anger, envy or discrimination? ” (Gandhi)
