Summary

In this assignment, students were instructed to read different case studies and choose one to complete the refusal sequence. They were required to go through the eight steps of the refusal sequence and explain their actions for each step. The chosen case study involved being asked to participate in illegal and dangerous activities by an intoxicated person. The student labeled the activities as drugs, sexual, illegal, and dangerous and determined the negative consequences of participating in them. The student then communicated their refusal, said no, used I statements, suggested an alternative, and left the scene to avoid questionable places. In the personal reflections section, the student explained how healthy behaviors positively affect their health status and how unhealthy behaviors negatively affect it. They also shared examples of how a peer influenced unhealthy and healthy behaviors in their life.

Personal Reflections

1. Explain how healthy behaviors and choices can positively affect your health status and how unhealthy behaviors and choices will negatively affect your health status. (10 points) Making healthy choices such as refraining from drugs, alcohol, and other dangerous and harmful situations, affects your health in many positive ways. Healthy behaviors and choices can help you reach your goals, have stronger relationships, lowers your chances of disease and death, and also makes you feel more confident and in control. Whereas unhealthy behaviors and choices negatively affects your health by destroying friendships and family relationships, increasing risk of serious health problems, and lowering your chances for success.

2. Compare a time when one of your peers influenced healthy behavior to a time when a peer has influenced unhealthy behavior in your life. (10 points) An example of when a peer has influenced unhealthy behavior in my life is when my friend asked me if I wanted to skip class with her. I agreed to skip and I ended up getting caught and I was in a lot of trouble. On the other hand, an example of a peer influencing healthy behavior was when my friend called me over to study for a test we were having. We studied all night and I ended up passing the test.
