Sogie Bill in the Real World

Table of Content

Although some say that the SOGIE bill should be held as a viable law for the Philippines, is it really necessary? Is it really needed? We answer no and here’s why.

Philippines as a “LGBTQ” Accepting Country

First of all why would we need to add the SOGIE bill if our country is already an accepting one, Boy Abunda, Vice Ganda, Aiza Seguerra, Rajo Laurel, Jake Zyrus, and Joel Cruz are all examples of LGBTQ members, they are all widely accepted by the Filipino community and if this isn’t enough our classmates, teachers, past friends, and even family members that are either gay, lesbian, Bisexual, or even transgender, have you ever seen them mistreated by other Filipino’s because of their gender? Coming from our experience both of us have cousin’s that are gay and in no way were they mistreated or in other words being discriminated because of their gender.

Other Laws

Another is that we do not need SOGIE bill because we already have existing laws out there that protect a person from discrimination such as the 1987 constitution of the republic of the Philippines or Republic Act no. 6713 “code of conduct and ethical standards for public officials and employees” or Presidential Decree No. 442 “ Labor Code of the Philippines,” which affords protection to labor, promote full employment, ensure equal work opportunities regardless of sex, race or creed and regulate the relations between workers and employers and many more laws are enforced so that anyone regardless of their gender is entitled to equal rights and protection against discrimination meaning that we do not need SOGIE bill.

Religion Breaker

We all know that there are many religions in the Philippines such as Christianity, Iglesia ni Kristo, Muslim, etc. But what if the SOGIE bill is turned into a law what will happen if for example the church rejects a transgender to study and become a priest or nun? If all boys school’s such as Lourdes School of Mandaluyong or Marist school in Marikina rejects lesbians the right to enrol in their school? Even for all girls school’s such as Saint Theresa College of Quezon city or Immaculate Conception Academy Greenhills reject Gays to enrol at their school just because they are upholding their religious beliefs? If the SOGIE bill is legalized would this mean that gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgenders are allowed to sue and take legal action on churches, religion based schools? In all honesty it would violate religious laws and the right to religion.

In Conclusion, we are against the SOGIE bill because if this bill is legalized it could lead to some outrageous social and religious disasters, We have stated three reasons on why the SOGIE bill must not be legalized and these are: (1) The Philippines is already accepting LGBTQ members. (2) There are already laws that are protecting the people from discrimination; and (3) because it would violate religious laws and the right to religion.
