He felt since he came from a lower income family that he had to make a name for himself in society. He never felt like he was suiTABLE for society, but mainly Daisy. That’s why he worked hard to climb up the social ladder and let an abundance of people come into his house. The majority of the people didn’t even know who Gatsby was and the main reason he continued to have his parties was in hopes Daisy would make an appearance. That is why this is not only a case Of man versus society, but man versus himself. In this man versus himself situation Daisy has to choose between Gatsby and Tom.
Though Daisy was the only one who loved Gatsby before the money, when he left her behind he realized soon after he still wanted and needed her. To the readers Tom seems like an abusive character that neglects his wife and cheats on her. That’s why when Gatsby comes back and confesses that he still loves her, the readers would be more than delighted if Daisy left her husband for an all-around better man. Who are they kidding though? It’s a novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald and no love Story ends the way the reader wants it to.
They either go their separate ways, but in this case ends tit Daisy packing her bags, with Tom by her side, and Gatsby being murder by a man h?s never met before. Climax: It could be believed that the hit and run accident was the climax, but a person would be mistaken. The peak of the story is actually Gatsby murder. The rising action would be the affairs and the hit and run accident. It all builds up to the surprise shooting of Gatsby. This is followed by the funeral and Daisy leaving Long Island with Tom. Resolution: Readers want to be satisfied with the end of a book.
No reader wants to be left hanging and unsatisfied. The whole book is amazing and then the minding Fitzgerald has to leave it depressing. Not every story is left with a fairy tale ending, but couldn’t Fitzgerald have killed off Tom instead of Gatsby? Gatsby seemed like such a great guy and almost no one made an effort to even make an appearance at the man’s funeral. Not even after all that he did for many people and all of the extravagant part he threw. Daisy couldn’t even show up and she stayed with that jerk Of a husband. -Characters- Daisy seems like a very melancholy person.
She has her own family and she was born into money. A person like that should be more than happy, but she’s not. Her husband’s a jerk, her child is almost entirely taken care of by another, and money can never end in happiness. Then when a previous love interest comes back in her life she takes advantage of it and then leaves. Maybe she left though because she cared too much what others thought over what she needed. Honestly I think she’s a coward for leaving with Tom and I don’t very much care for her, but some people never change.
Tom and Mrs.. Wilson are very much alike. They both don’t care who they have to throw under the bus to get where they want and that will never change. Their love for money and hurting the people that love them is robbery what drew them together. Their affair is probably what depressed Daisy and made Mr.. Wilson physically and mentally sick. To think about it, Without the affair Gatsby would have probably lived. Mr.. Wilson wouldn’t have gone to Tom to find out who owned the car and Mrs.. Wilson wouldn’t have run out in front of the car.
Every story needs a villain, which explains why I don’t like them. Nick’s kind Of like Gatsby, because he left home to explore bigger and better things. He mostly kept to himself and tried not to interfere with others lives even at the most inconvenient times. Besides the occasional mood swings he seems like a great guy. He and Jordan were a lot alike, which sucks that they were never a couple. Then again it’s a Fitzgerald novel and that could never have happened. Gatsby is my favorite character. Think it’s because he reminds me so much of myself.
He was a very likeTABLE man, but not many people cared to know him. He always tried to better himself and it got him far and made him much money. He was probably meant to be well liked, which made his sudden death very depressing. -Setting- Fitzgerald chose the early 1 sass’s because it was a time of growth and fife. Although the book ties these in I believe the main reason he chose this time period was that the class system was a major factor in the people lives. Most people would rather have many expensive things when really all that matters is who they’re with.
The first time Gatsby was with Daisy she had things, but what she needed was love. On the other hand Gatsby needed the expensive things before he could be with her. That is why I think Gatsby goes into great detail about Daisy house. He believed he had to have expensive things to be good enough for her. Water also plays a major role in this book. The first time it appears is when Daisy gets into a cold bath when reading Gatsby letter. It wouldn’t seem like a terrible thing, because usually in literature water means cleansing, purity, or rebirth, but not in The Great Gatsby.
You start to figure out after it rains when Daisy and Gatsby reunite at Nick’s house, when Gatsby is killed in water and when it rains at his funeral that is nothing Of the sort. It rather follows with sadness and the end of Gatsby to be exact. The bath when she finally moves on, at Nicks house when their affair should have never began, hen he is murdered, and at his funeral when his life was finally ended. The green light at the end of Daisy dock is yet another important part of the setting. Gatsby said that the green light could be seen from across the bay.
To Daisy the book said that the light seemed very close to her. From this a person could infer that since Daisy was so close to Gatsby at the time that it would explain why he could not see the light at the time. I believe this goes into the fact that he thought Daisy was once his again. That the green light was no longer across the bay from Gatsby and instead it was right next to IM. Gatsby house is a big part of the setting. Fitzgerald makes an effort to show just how enormous and lonely Gatsby house really is.
The only reason he bought the house was to be close to Daisy and impress her with the money he recently came into. He didn’t even like the house too much, because it was so empty. That’s why he filled it with strangers with his extravagant parties. It doesn’t matter though, because isn’t a person not known by any of those people one of the loneliest people of all? It can be thought that Fitzgerald was trying to foreshadow, like the house, that he loud remain empty and alone. -Narration- I believe Fitzgerald made a very wise decision in choosing the form to write The Great Gatsby in.
I believe he chose to write it in Nick’s perspective, first person, because unlike the other forms it leads to a better story. It gives the reader a sense of the other characters, but they don’t know exactly how the characters feel or what they’re going to do. This point of view really pulls the reader in, because they’re anticipating what happens next. -Writing Style- I would definitely say that Fitzgerald is one of the hardest writers that I’ve ever read. He uses formal diction, because instead of using a few words to explain something he uses only one word to explain it all.
He uses long and challenging sentences that map out into lengthy paragraphs. The main reason his paragraphs are so stretched out is he uses little dialogue. Most of the book consists of a lot of imagery and explanations. This would explain why the reader has to pay close attention to details like colors, seasons, and the recurrence Of objects or places. -Theme- In The Great Gatsby the class system has to be one of the main points Fitzgerald focused on. In the 1 sass’s the amount of money a person had was he base for their popularity.
Though Gatsby had much money and little people actually knew who he was. This shows that money isn’t everything and shouldn’t matter. In the end though, people still believe it is everything. Love doesn’t actually conquer all. Sometimes it doesn’t matter how much money a person has. In the beginning Daisy didn’t care how much money Gatsby had, but he felt like he wasn’t good enough for her without it. Once he had the money she already had someone and no longer needed him. In the end it doesn’t matter how much money a person has if they can’t share it with someone else.
