I have always been fascinated with the Information Technology (IT) field. I always knew that I wanted to seek a career in the Information Technology field. This dream became feasible when I came to the United States to finish high school. Coming as an immigrant with a minimal knowledge of the English language and American Culture, I spent my high school years learning English and struggling to adapt to the rigorous school curriculum. After completing high school, my life took an unexpected turn; I found myself working full time to support my family. Nonetheless, years later, my dream to pursue a degree in the field of Telecommunications has begun. By entering this field, I hope to make a positive contribution locally as well as globally.
Telecommunications is a vital component of today’s Computer Technologies Studies. Telecommunications enables people around the world to contact one another, to access information instantly, and to communicate from remote areas. It usually involves a sender and one or more recipients linked by a technology, such as a telephone system, or computer network (LANs or WANs), that transmits information from one place to another. Pursing a career in the Information Technology field is not an easy task. Being knowledgeable about the field is not enough, one must also possess the personality. When dealing with computers oneself has to be compassionate, as I am currently working to get into the Telecommunication or Networking Technology program, I understand that I will encounter many challenges and responsibilities, but my enthusiasm and eagerness to work in this changing field that is far greater than the challenging responsibilities that I have encounter so far.
Individuals, people, businesses, and governments use many different types of telecommunications systems. Some systems, such as the telephone system, use a network of cables, wires, and switching stations for point-to-point communication. Other systems, such as radio and television, broadcast signals through space and over the air that can be received by anyone who has the proper equipment to receive them. Some systems make use of several types of media to complete a transmission. For example, a telephone call may travel by means of copper wire fiber-optic cable, and radio signals as the call is sent from sender to receiver.
One way to categorize telecommunications media is to consider whether or not the media uses wires. Wire-based (or wireline) telecommunications provide the initial link between most telephones and telephone networks and are reliable means of transmitting messages. Telecommunications without wires, commonly referred to as wireless communications, use technologies such as cell phones, walkie-talkies, citizen band (CB) radios, pagers, and satellites. Wireless communications offer complete mobility and flexibility.
Communication has changed greatly in the past twenty years. There have been very significant technological advances that has enabled communication to advance. For instance, the only way of talking if an individual were not face to face with a person was by telephone. Not a normal smartphone, but rather a plugged-in phone. Which means that only one person could call at a time due to the fact every phone was connected in the home, was connect to the same line call three different people on three different location. Another thing is, there were no such thing as texting on the phones. The technology wasn’t as advanced to where phones can receive and send texts in less than a second. Back then; the mobile cellular phone did not come with cameras or any other apps other than the ability to call another person and talk. That’s one of the issues with regular phones nowadays that some people don’t like.
People prefer to text since it is quick and easy and it’s not a hassle. People are used to Wi-Fi and wireless convertibility. The Internet back then consisted of a very heavy desktop computer with dial-up. Thinking about these things makes me glad about the modern conveniences that are available today. There have been a lot of significant advances in modern technology. This in turn has allowed to communication to advance as well. However, it all comes back to convenience and what type of interaction oneself prefer. These types of communication are all with its benefits and disadvantages. And I’m glad technology has advanced communication to the way we use it today. This is a great field to work in, because technology is changing day to day with software and hardware to improve services. For me there would be a chance to become a telecommunication or networking technician. I will always be fascinated and excited for what the next day will bring.
