To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, I think this novel is a very well written memoir. The story follows and captivates the live of a young Jean Louise Finch, also known as Scout. I really enjoyed reading this novel. One of the major themes in this book is innocence, particularly the Innocence In Scout. Issues In society. Her innocence represents a rare thing, even though she learns the hard truth as she grows older, she still remains a pure and precious young girl. Her Innocence shows a different perspective In the story because It’s looked through the eyes of a little girl, not an adult, so we get the sense of what Scout Is feeling as we read the book. This book has many golden lines and memorable quotes. One of my favorite line from Tactics was when he was talking to scout about Walter Cunningham.
He said, You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it. ” (Take Page 30) usually, golden lines are greater human truths, so it helps the readers to relate to the story and the characters. Also, the lines help identify or classify the character’s personality. The example I previously mentioned shows that Attic’s view of society; it shows that he is a raw human being and that he thinks all life is valuable and you should never edge someone based on their social status or their appearance.
I really enjoyed the style the author wrote for the novel. She was very detailed and she had a creative use of symbolism. One of the major events in the story was Tom Robinsons trial, and Tom Robinson represented the mockingbird in the story. Tactics mentioned to never kill a mockingbird because they are harmless creatures. Tom Robinson was the mockingbird; he was evidently innocent in the trial and yet he died because of the white community. He was shot out of the sky.
Harper Lee uses symbolism to connect the story all together and it creates a fluent progression for the story. All in all, I highly recommend this book to all my peers. I will admit that some of the concepts were slightly confusing, but I loved the story plot and the style of writing the author used.
