In order to read this image you need to know what the photo is trying to tell you and what the purpose of the photo is for. 2. What do you see? L know that this photo is from a blob about how girls feel like they need to look a certain way based on what the media and ads in magazines and TV shows show us how we are supposed to look causing young girls and young women to suffer from eating disorders. Also in this photo there are words surrounding this girl such as useless, ugly, fat, dumb, which are all indications that she feels this way about herself. . If you or someone you love is living with this secret from day to day they might not thing they are ill or sick. They might think they are doing the right thing, something they can stop at any time but in reality it is a sickness that many girls can’t recover from and it can end in dramatic life hanged from illness and even death. 5.

What specific claims about this issue does the visual seem to be making? -This visual is informing us what this girl is thinking. We assume her mouth is closed due to the block and the words over her mouth, what she is thinking written around her. Beside her is another statement that says “Becoming the new feminine ideal requires just the right combination of insecurity, exercise, and anorexia”. Which is a statement showing us the brutal things some will do to achieve what they think is beauty. . Thinking in terms of Audience: What sort of responses does this visual seem to want from its viewers? What messages or lessons does it want to convey? Is it successful? -It wants to convey the pressure society and media is putting on young girls. The images of girls we see on TV and in magazines aren’t realistic considering a lot of the images we see are photo shopped and/or altered in some way but it’s what young girls feel they are supposed to look like. This image is showing awareness of this and does a great job of showing us how society can affect people.
